A Green PBY-5a Catalina

Folk’s you know of the Aussie ‘Black Cat’ that I posted on the Forum some time back, well I found a photo of my ‘Green Cat’ that the RAAF used in the Communications Role, two of these were flown by 8 Comm Flight. The photo of the model is some 6 years old, yes I know that the Fishtail exhausts are missing, but I built this model subject from an article I read and long before the RAAF Museum painted their’s. This was the old Monogram 48 scale kit. It has been on Loan to the RAAF Officer Training School, for almost 18 months, the Catalina Association, have expressed an interest in this model.

I intend to build another PBY 5 some time down the track, in the scheme of Intermediate Blue over Black, two such birds were flown by the RAAF in this scheme, but the subject I intend to do my next ‘Cat’ on is ‘Sea Hawk’ the 111 ASR Flight aircraft.

The PBY-5A is a beautiful aircraft, and i never thought it would look nice in green! Any more pics of either of those two? [:)]

Very nice build, thanks for the pics.

Where is the Cat in the lower picture being restored? It’s looking great too.

Guy’s, these are the only pic’s I have of either for the moment.

The restored aircraft is at the RAAF Museum Point Cook.

Rob.

Very nice looking PBY in a most unusual scheme. Thanks for posting the pics.

in the words of Richie Benaud, “that’s marvellous”.

Different, but nice!

Thanks for the pics Lobbie.

Good one, Lobbie.
I’ll have to head over to Point Cook and have a gander. Do you have any contacts there? The only guy I knew had a P-51 hangared there, but he’s moved on. Know anyone there?

lobbie the bird looks great. nicely done.

Hello Lobbie
Love the photos, I am in the progress of building the Acadamy version of this in 1/72 and am doing it in green also. Not a lot of data around that I have found for the subject, but I am still looking.

John

I 've always been impressed by the PBY, it’s a great plane , and it looks like you’ve done it justice. Nice build.
