OK-- this was started as an answer to frosty’s deal when we signed up for the Backwards Build back when it was the Backwards Build. OK-- without further ado here is “Right of Way”…
This is a tank representing the 756th Tank Batallion in Monte Cassino, Italy in February of 1944. These boys have found themselves in a typical Catch 22 situation- and have decided to let the tank solve it for them. Wanted to get some use out of some Verlinden signs I had and with the limited space on the base, figured I could tell a story with just these 2 signs… it won’t win any awards, but my wife thinks it’s cool enough that she wants it- so it’s for her[;)]
All in all, a very nice Sherman. The tank markings you chose may be even more appropriate to you commentary on the Italian situation than you realized. If I recall correctly and have not confused my Shermans, I saw a photo of the Sherman you modelled mired up to its sponsons in a mud bog. I have no idea if the poor thing was ever recovered, or simply abandoned.
I think you did a better job on your first Sherman than I did, Mike. That’s simply gorgeous (as it is just not the usual Sherman colors). Great job. The base is also very nice and blends well with the tank.
i’d haf ta say that s a pretty good build for a first go at it. the color and weathering look nice. the base looks a bit spartan though to me. and wouldn’t the sign behind it be knocked over if it was so close to the tank??
ahhh heck, who cares. the model looks nice Jeeves, really nice. hope you had fun with it…
Thanks guys-- it was fun!! Someone who is freaky about Shermans is trying to get me to do another [;)]…we’ll see…
gringe–
I agree with you-- which is why I know it won’t win any awards LOL. The base is rather small, but it is what I had available to me…there is not much room for anything else there-- although I suppose I could put some debris here and there to spruce it up a bit. You might be right about the sign…I imagine they probably wanted to knock it down when they encountered it, but I guess the driver was pretty skilled [;)]
