I haven’t posted any of my builds in 6 months despite my reputation as a fast builder. Why? Cause I took on a 1/48 Monogram B-29. The toughest kit I built in my opinion. I normally build planes 1-3 weeks but I wanted this to be nice so I sent 8 months! The biggest challenge was filling all the seams. Dealing with really old Monogram decals wasn’t so easy either. It took alot of lead to have this thing be nose heavy. Alclad II Alunimun and Dk. Alunimun were used. Well enough talking here it is.
I wonder if I am the first 15 year old to ever build one? Probably not. Anyway all comments welcome.
I’m pretty sure you’re not the first 15 year old to finish one, but I bet those that were aren’t as nice. I know I never finished mine (had the Shep Paine how to leaflet, as well as the Enola Gay and Bock’s Car markings).
Sweet, Andrew. 1/48? Christ, that thing must be HUGE! The finish looks flawless. You do such good work at your age, I can’t wait to see what you can accomplish when you get to be an old fart like some(most) of us…
Raptordriver WOWZERS!!! What can I say Andrew a stellar build !!! I could only wish my NMF would look half as good as yours does. Thats ones a show stopper I am tellin ya. You should submit this one to the FSM reader gallery.
Very nicely done, Great paint job, great everything. I have this in the collection but keep putting it off, and yes it is a HUGE aircraft to display. I figured when I got around to building it, the dinner table would be a great place to display it but I think the wife would have another option for me[:P]
Heh, no you’re probably not, lol… I built it when it first came out in 1977 (and a couple more times since then), and although I was 18 at the time, but my brother did it at age 15 the same year… Back then, the decals were for “Thumper” as well as “Enola Gay” and “Bock’s Car”… But yours is definately better than my kid brother’s was…
Got two more of ‘em sittin’ in the stash too (They’re Revell re-releases though)… With the Hobby Lobby 40% coupon, they cost about 25.00…
I plan on recreating Shep Paine’s “Enola Gay” diorama with one of them… Shep’s is here:
Probably the first 15 year old to build one that looks that good. I built one at 15 and it ended up as stowage for firecrackers. Sadly someone must have been smoking in the hold and blew it to smithereens.
