Hi, guys! I’m not usually over on this side of the house, so please bear with me. In posting for the upcoming cross over build over on the dark side, I was chatting with some of your crew. I implied I have an aversion to NMF, gee wonder why, and thought I’d post a couple of pics of my first attempt at doing one. Actually, this is the first model I’ve tried with it, but it’s the 3rd (I think) go round on the plane. I started off with Bare Metal foil, stripped that off, painted with Metalizer Aluminum Plate, wasn’t satisfied with the fuse seam, so I sanded it down and painted again. I don’t thein the top came out too badly, but the bottom leaves a lot to be desire. Tell me what you think, please.

btw, it’s a Tamiya D with a CMD cockpit and elevators.

I think that it looks great from here. I wish I could make a NMF look that good!! The Mustang’s one of my favorite fighters, you’ve done it justice so far… can’t wait to see it finished.

looks good. the bottom is a little dirty but nothing to be ashamed of. Wait til you see my planes, then you’ll know.

Bill it looks good. I used to leave the bottom alone way back when. I will try to get some pics up of my spitefires up tomrrow so your not alone over here.[8D]

Looks good for a first ( or is that third?) try ! NMF can be a real PIA. Every mark on the model’s surface will show.
Be careful handling the Buffing Aluminum. It is extremely fragile (don’t want to see you have to do a fourth try !)
If the bottom seam bugs you, you can always permanently mount it to a base.
Good start !

Looks good to me. At least you have the guts to try a NMF. Maybe one day I will, after I get a better airbrush that is.

intimidating. Just attempting it takes courage.

Thanks, guys. It was, and still is a scary thing to me.Stupid thing is that I’ll probably wind up painting a blue or green nose pannel on this thing. Oh well, I’ve always had trouble with that fuse seam and wanted to see what I could do. I’ve got a B-36 and an old Monogram F-105 that are screaming to me!! lol

bill your mustang looks good. like pix said be careful with the finish but otherwise well done my friend. thanks for sharing.

i think ur p-51d looks great !
i’m doing at least one of 'em myself…
w/ NMF too… didn’t know enough 2 know it was gonna b hard 2 do…[:I]
got the 1/72 airfix kit painted w/ rattlecan silver so far,
it looks real shiny ! [:D]
now i have 2 put it together, & if the fit is bad,
i’m in 4 a rough time…
NMF is tough 2 do, and tarps & stowage r not an option, LOL !

That’s too true, Frosty. They don’t go too well on the sleek lines of a Mustang. Now a P-47 maybe!! lol

looks fairly decent from my house friend. trust me, she’ll look better with the decals on her. not bad for the first try though!! later.
