When I first heard this saying I thought it really described this project down to the ground.
This project was inspired by Mike Rinaldi’s beautiful piece. Mike Rinaldi based his exactly on the vehicle that was photographed at Pilsen airport at the end of the war.
When I started mine I wanted to use the beautiful MkIV E by Dragon. and the Flak 36. Two beautiful kits in one place.
Gorgeous, so far! I LOVE these “one-off” things–I’m always on the lookout for them myself. It’s great to see something so unique and weird modelled.
YOur weathering and paint looks great. I really like the rust effects and the primer area; it’s a nice dash of color.
I’m curious how you made the determination that it was an “ausf E” ? Or did you just choose that arbitrarily, as no true determination is really posssible?
Hey Doog. Thanks for the comments. I picked the E because it was easy to hand and I really wanted a chance to use the kit. THe actual vehicle in the conversion seens to be a MK IV H. Even the flak is different. Mine is based more along theh lines of “If it happened once it could happen twice”. THe floor plate is actually raw steel which would go brown but the edges where the fighting compartment/upper hull was is red. As for what else I think just looking I need to redo the floor and add ammo both steel and brass. and clean up around certain crappy little blemishes. and most important gleu the gun in and the engine deck as it fell off today while taking the photos.
Hey man, was that your article in janurary 2008. The Karl Logan one.
Very nice work on the rusting! Outstanding build of an eclectic subject, AND you have refs to back it up…I usually try to incorporate actual pics at the contest when I model a specific vehicle…I think it helps show the judges how much work went into the research and accuracy…
The Germans seemed to have mounted AT guns on ANYTHING they could find at the end of the war!
Hey Terry, yeah that was my article–you can see I’m into weathering and old rusted Panzers too![swg]
I like your idea on the “E” chassis–I agree, too. I’m sure you’ve seen the photo of a StuG gun mounted on a PzII? Agree with what Manny said; just about anything is technically plausible!
Hey Karl nice work on the article, I didn’t get the issue, I wass in the City Center yeterday and with bad weather, the flu and the newsagents been packed with people I didn’t feel 100% but I will get it during the week when I get back to work.
The list of oddball stuff can get pretty long. Just alone from Panzerwrecks I’ve seen.
The Pz 1 with the Stuk 40 mounted, this was outside a Berlin Flaktower.
The Sdkfz 234/2 with Luchs Turret.
The Stug 3 converted to a Bergepanzer with a jib crane.
Now I don’t know how true this one is but I have heard of some Jagd Tigers mounting an 88mm. Possibly no more than six.
and not forgetting the Panther D with PzIV turret.
Hi Terry[:)]–Happy New Year 'bro—man I gotta tell ya, of all the builds and pics you’ve posted,(and ones you have sent me) this has got to be my favorite![tup][tup]-- I am really loving the paint job in EVERY aspect–Awsome job my friend[:D] and a very cool representation of a very unusual subject----yer old pal, tread[8D]
Terry this is truly a beautiful piece the weathering and welding is some of the best i have seen i could stare at it forever, i love the subject its very unusual and now you have built it cyber hobby should release one for the rest of us heh terrific work all round.
Thank you Ron for such words of encouragement, in fact , thankyou to all the members of the forum who replied. I have stopped working on this for a few weeks, I need a break. I will finish up in the next few weeks and get the finished pics up ASAP.
