a/c carrier Shokaku Japanese WW2

I am looking for info on flight deck and hanger deck on Shokaku carrier. Also conning tower. Seeking dimensions of planking and tiedowns ,stripes ,etc. Hope to put “Zero” A6m2 on deck in some sort of diorama. Thanks for future help in this matter.

Depending on what scale you are talking about, there are already several companies that make sections of Japanese carrier flight deck for dioramas and display purposes, complete with all the little details. Check the squadron.com website as one way to get an idea of what’s available.

Thanks for info, I am building my Zero in 1/32 scale. I have a few photos of the Shokaku deck, but I’ve gotten limited info from it. I hope to have a dio with the Zero passing the conning tower, and the full width of the flight deck.

Whoa!!! Sounds Cool. I hope you have alot of space. The width of the deck at 1/32 scale has to be almost three feet across. You might want to scale down to 1/48 scale.

Thank you, at this time I don’t have access to my 1/48 a/c’s. I bought an A6M5 in 1/32 as an opponent to a P-40, I decided to backdate it to 1940 Zero when I realized it was a newer model than the Warhawk. Can you tell me what the actual dimensions are for the Shokaku? I have seen some photos of a 1/500 kit and the dimensions don’t seem to add up to what is listed with the Zero’s on deck.

I have a 1/700 Scale Zuikaku at home and I can take a photo of it with one of the zero’s or more to give you a rough idea of the scale. In the mean time here’s the URL for a great source for the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN): http://www.combinedfleet.com/shokak_c.htm If this address doesn’t help you let me know and I can still take that picture. -Chris

Thank you I will try the site, Clark.

I checked out the suggested site and I am a bit confused. The dimensions say that it is 29.4’ wide, but a site I located with Tamiya 1/700 scale ships shows two a/c’s sitting with the wingtips nearly touching. I don’t see how that is possible on a deck only 29’ wide, since the wings do not seem to be hanging out over the edges of the deck. Can someone clarify this confusion for me, please?

Dimensions 844’10" x 85’4" x 29’1"

844’10" long x 85’4"wide x 29’1"draft(ship below waterline)

Thanks for clarification. Clark
