I was looking around the Group build forum and I noticed that there are alot of builds, is it just me or does it seem like there are a bit too many. When I came in there were about five or six going on for aircraft, and that was a very nice managble little number, now there are tons of them and its kinda ovewhelming. Anyone else feel this?

I don’t think there is such a thing as “too many”. The variety gives everyone a chance for the “what ever floats your boat” opportunity. I hadn’t built a plastic model for about a year, when I started visiting this forum regularly and figured out what Group Builds are all about. It inspired me to get back to building. I am entered in three GBs, finished one, working on the second and waiting for the third to start.

Agree with yardbird there, give me incentive. Hey, just join the one that you really like.
There are a lot of them going on. Only problem is selecting the ones to participate in. I don’t like to get overextended & not be able to contribute, so I have to pass on some that would otherwise be of interest. Oh Well.

I know what you mean! I have completed four but I have signed up for six others and tentative on two more. I am thinking I am going to have to pull out of three of them now that I have a better idea of how long it takes me to do a build. The problem is that they all interest me and I find myself being pulled in too many directions. Including directions I had no intentions of going in. The trick I guess is to figure out what you want to do and then see if anyone else is doing anything similar. [2c]
There does seem to be a growth of GBs, but that’s good, I think. It can only help with the interaction among all of us. I’ve joined my first two group builds this year, one because the subject really interested me (What If A-10) and another because I had a kit that was sitting half completed and this gave me the push to get going on it again (Military Trucks). That’s about all I can handle at one time. The Stuka build was calling my name, but I’m trying to thin the herd of kits I have now before I go buying any more. That’s just how I’m dealing with it.
I don’t think there can be too many group builds, as long as there is interest in that subject, why not share it with other like-minded modelers?
Well I agree with all of you, I am not saying I am against all the builds, I say bring them on but it just feels overwhelming to have so many out there. But as long as people are happy and learning from others, the builds serve there full purpose.

The most frustrating part is not being able to particpate in a build because you’re basically booked up for the year. I’ve missed out on some good ones.
I think the hardest part of all these GBs is controlling myself by not over-committing to them. There are so many that interest me and they do provide motivation to pull out of the stash some kits that might not have ever seen the light of day again. With the upcoming Cold War GB I now have an excuse to build that Monogram B-36. I also hadn’t built a vacform in years and the Vacuform GB gave me incentive to get back it.
you can neve have too much of a good thing!! or something like that anyway!![:)]
Never too many. Should mean that there is always a choice to choose from.
I don’t think there can be too many GB’s…as long as the subject matter can be more widely varied, you stand a better chance of ending up with probably more participants than you’d normally get - remember that we, as modellers, seem to have hugely varying interests and tastes in what we prefer to build - so the more the merrier, I say.
Ther CAN be the problem of having modellers interested in so many GB’s that they over commit and find it hard to finish anything on time…so you have to be a little choosey.
LOL, i just wish i could finish the ones i started months ago!! everytime i join a GB, it seems something happens to where i can’t finish on time. later.
excuses excuses Chris!!! [;)] kidding… I know how hard “transferring” can be… which is what ya did basically…
I think the more GB’s the better… they keep me going even if I get disgusted with a kit… I like the interaction and have made a few friends along the way… and I echo the “gotta watch how many you get into lest you become overwhelmed” feeling… did that when I first found out about them… had to pass on the Pearl Harbor, Pacific 60th Anniv., and the Stuka one… but am having fun all the same!!!
