Ok so i have just started my Monogram 1/48 B-24 and as a 14 year old this is a big build from what im used to. I always hear u guys saying “man this thing is big” after u build a B-17 or such and i never realized what u meant until i started this thing. My Maccahi 205 can fit inbetween the two tails of the B-24!!!I finished the extorior painting and am moving on to the landing gear and putting in the glass and decals
I’ve never tackled that huge a project. Post some pics so we can see how its comin along.
Good Luck!!
Steve
I’ll second that. Let’s see some pics!
You should see the real deal side-by-side with a B-17. It’s like a mini-van and a school bus.
Not to get off-topic, but those turrets are tiny. The ball turret is the size a large beach ball. I’m 6’1" and I don’t think I could man the top turret. Even it was only about 5’ tall. You have to stand in that one.
Wouldn’t mind seeing some pics of it when your done. I too have a bunch of the bigger kits that I am waiting to do when I actually have some space to put them, but as of now they will just have to wait patiently in the box.
Guys ill try my best to persuade my dad into letting me use his digital camera. I just got a new airbrush and i tried it on the engines for the flamed out engine look were the top half of the wings looks like its been scorched.I think i did ok not the best but im gettin better. If you have ever stood next to a B-1 Bomber then u would see a Accord next to a blue whale
I have the pics and hope to get them to ya soon. One problem though is that there are no decals on it because the model was so old that the decals stredded right outta the box. I compromised and made a custom nose art using a stencil i made out of an index card. This was my first project with my new airbrush and the only thing i really used it on was to get the exhaust damage from the engines on the wings. I also tried my fist hand at weathering a bomber so you will have to see how that turns out
You think you have problems? I’m 6’ 6" and still growing.
BTW please show us some pics.
Joe
Im going to as soon as i can im going to be gone for the next two days but then i can probably get them to ya
“Big Challenge”? OK, I guess since I’ve already built it (-D version), have a J in the stash , 2 1:48 B-17Gs, a B-17F with another in progress, a B-29, and several medium bombers, and only being recently (last Friday) 16, my [2c] don’t matter much, but it doesn’t seem too big to me…
Seriously though, that build is pretty big…, you should try the B-29! I’ve put it up against the B-17, and it DWARFS it! I need to get some bigger shelves…
Purple_haze, good luck on your build. Yes, the planes are BIG! I hope you’ll find a safe place to keep it after you’re done.
I was always fascinated by the picture below, showing how <> the B-29 looked when it was parked next to a B-36.
Enjoy!

Wow, ya thats one big plane i stood next to the wheel of a B-36 and it was huge. Sorry to change subject but i couldnt help but notice you have a 1/48 F-105 in stash where in the world did you come up with one of those thats my all-time favorite plane and all i can find are 1/32 F-105s. I used to have a 1/48 but it got destroyed by a little 3 year old girl who thought it was a toy.
I’ve got a 105, too. It’s OOP. R/M’s Century Series Fighters, might be able to get one on eBay.
I love that plane so much. Nothing is faster then it at low level. Another size comparision with the B-24 is that the F-105 is roughly the same length!!
Yep. You could set up house in the tailpipe, too!
Heres another comparison, The Thud could carry nearly twice the bombload as the B-24. And actually the F-111 was faster at low level.
Yes the R/M F-105 is currently oop. But there was a reissue about three months ago and there are still some on the shelves at Wallyworld.
