A ? about LuckyModel.com

I’d like to know if anyone has shopped here because there stuff is crazy cheap $ wise, and they offer free shipping. So my question is if you have dealt with them how was it?

I have found them very reliable and the service is good, should you ever need to contact them. Shipping (via air) is reasonably fast, on average 7 days from date of shipping till it’s on my doorstep.

Things to be aware of:

  • Payment is up-front before the item is shipped (ie. payment at the time of placing the order, notwhen they actually ship the order). This may be an issue for some.
  • If you want something quickly, only order items which are listed as “In Stock”. Often, items are listed as “Available” which means that they don’t have it in stock but should be able to get it from their supplier. Don’t hold your breath though, as there are some items listed as “available” which have been long OOP.
  • If you don’t need something in a hurry, the surface mail option can offer considerable savings in shipping costs, as surface mail is calculated in whole kilogram increments, wheareas air mail ishippng is calculated on the actual total weight of an item.

Overall, I’m pretty happy with the service…

Thank’s Phil, just the info I was looking for.

I’ve ordered with them before and had no problems. Like said before just make sure the item says it is in stock or you might be waiting for awhile.

I have delt with them on 4 orders so far. Just have to watch the shipping charges. But is just based on weight and size. I give them top marks on customer service. Had a bottle of paint leak and they replaced it. Something that was avaible, but they couldn’t get in, they gave me instore credit. I will be shopping from them in the future.

Ive used them several times without any problems, as mentioned the biggest thing is only order “instock” items unless your prepared to wait a while.

Thank’s for the info guy’s.As far as the shipping goes they advertise free air but say nothing about min. order’s or if there’s some type of catch. But for the price’s there showing it might be worth it.

As far as I know, there is no minimum. Just a fair warning though. It might take 2 to 3 weeks for you to get your order. That is what I have experienced in the past. I have order free shipping stuff with my regular order and it was shipped all together.

The free shipping only applies to air mail shipping for a number of product lines, which are mostly AM detail accessories, not everything in general. There’s no minimum buy conditions - you might order a $4.00 PE set and that’s fine - no catches.

Phil pretty much covered it, the free shipping DOES NOT apply to kits! In fact, it’s far from free - once you get past “small parcel” size, the costs go up exponentially.

The small stuff does get delivered VERY quickly, however. I’ve had some boxes/envelopes of PE stuff get to me in as little as FOUR days! [tup]

Nothing but good things to say about Lucky…once you’re figured out their arcane shipping calculation system. [(-D]

Yeah I noticed that on some of thier kit’s the shipping was almost as much as the price of the kit!I’m going to order some PE set’s but I think I’ll stick with my LHS for kit’s.

They get my [tup]. Just follow everyone’s advice!

Me too! I haven’t any problems with them.

Well, if you catch them at the right time - like during a sale - and you have some time to mess around with your shopping cart a bit, it CAN be done such that you’ll end up paying WAAAY less than at the LHS. I think the sweet-spot size of box ends up being around 12 kits or so - you can get the average price-per-kit shipping cost down to about $4.50-$5.00 each, which coupled with a 10-12% off sale (wait for Christmas!) nets you a bottom line about 45-50% of retail.

I know I snagged some Tamiya stuff for around $15-$18 apiece last year, and their prices on Academy really can’t be beat. [:D]

Agree with last post, catch them at a sale and buy a bunch of kits at a time. Otherwise, as you have mentioned the postage will be a large % of your cost. I think they charge per Kg, so the next kits added until the next Kg will be free for shipping + some handling charge. I’ve ordered 4 or 5 times from them. Last big order was for 6 kits, avgering about $15 a kit vs $22 a kit if I purchased mail order in the US. Also the Asian produced kits are the real bargains, eastern European ones are not.

Looks like a nice site if you like ordering from over seas. Here’s a link you all: http://www.luckymodel.com/scale.aspx

I’m going to stick with http://squadron.com/HotDeals.htm as I see it a lot of the items there are the same once I added in the shipping on items here the prices are in some respects the same, but not on all things. Happy shopping you all.[#toast]

I tried to but they don’t take credit cards they want a direct bank to bank transfer…and me being me I have no idea how to do that lol.

They do take credit card (MC and Visa) payments - the only thing is that it’s handled “externally”, via a portal to their banking provider.

This is the reason why the order payment (if buying using a CC) must be made in full, up-front before the order is processed. LuckyModel doesn’t keep a record of your credit card details, which is why, if it becomes necessary to split a shipment (eg. if there are outstanding items on your order), you don’t get hit up for additional shipping.

I’ve been ordering from them for several years using a CC without any issues.

[#ditto] Phil again about the credit cards. [;)]
