Okay guys,
After many years of wanting to super detail an A-7E navy bird I’m biting the bullet and starting here soon. I will be replacing the kits main gear wells with some really nice resin sets. What would you recommend is the best way to remove the molded kits wells from the fuselage half’s without destroying the kit?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I’m doing this same thing, what kit are you using? I have the Hasegawa kit and I’m putting in a Seamless Suckers intake and an Aires cockpit along with a good set of Eduard photoetch. The Aires cockpit is beautiful, as is the pe. The intake is great, but will take a bit of fitting to get it and the cockpit to work together. I’ve just been sanding and scraping the fuselage sides to get the cockpit to fit in. If you’re using pe stuff in conjunction with the kit cockpit, you might just carefully cut and scrape with a blade. Really take a look at the Aires cockpit though, it’s vastly superior to the kit one.
I’m using the Hasegawa kit as well. I have the Aires cockpit and gear wells. I’m trying to find the Seamless Sucker intake, but so far I haven’t had any luck in finding one in stock. The kits rear gear wells have to be removed in order to put the new resin ones in place and i’m trying to find the best process to do that, just haven’t had any luck in finding a good method or resource. I hate to destroy the fuselage.
Ooh, I don’t have the gear wells, are they worth looking into? I think I’d just carefully scribe away what I need instead of taking a motor tool to it. Just make sure to leave yourself a margin of error and finish the fit with sanding instead of trying to cut to the right place. Cut close, not all the way.
The Seamless Suckers was hard for me to track down, but I eventually found a phone number on the internet. A guy in Kansas runs it from his house and usually makes the stuff per order. Lemme see if I can track that number down and give it to you. The exhaust is about 10 bucks, plus a few for shipping. He’s a really nice guy and will send you a price list. He makes good stuff, that intake looks really nice dry fit into the fuselage.

I copied this off of the order form from when I got my intake. Just be warned, it will take a bit of work to make the intake work with the cockpit. It will work, but you’ll have to make it.

As for the wheel wells, yeah they are quite more detailed then the kit. The kit isn’t bad, but they don’t compare.

Hmm, I might have to look into getting those before I go any farther. It’s on the back burner right now anyway because I’m finishing up my M7 Priest. I may keep it there until I finish my Mustang and order those wheel wells in the mean time. Post any pics that you can!!

You bet, I will do my best to post them. The A-7 is next in line, but i’m in the early-middle stages of an F4F right now. I picked up the wheel well set from Squardon.com, it also comes with new gear doors that are much more in scale. Check it out, I don’t think you will be disappointed.
I was told Mr. Brown is out touring and working and has a backlog of a month on his seamless suckers.
