Hello - I intend on building a accurate kit of my neighbor’s jet he flew in 'Nam. It’s an A-7B Corsair II with the VA-155 flown off of the U.S.S. Oriskany. Question is: was there any obvious difference between the A,B,C,D,E versions of this jet? (visibly speaking) Thanks one and all !!- Craig

The A and B were externally identical for all intents and purposes.
The D is and Air Force version and differs quite a bit
The E is a navalised version of the USAF. It differs visually from the A/B mainly in the cannon installation; one on either side of the intake on the A/B verse one Gatling gun on the E. Fujimi makes the best A/B in 1/72 and IIRC Superscale made decals for VA-155. As for 1/48 I’m not sure, Hasegawa makes a great E and Monogran used to have a dog of an A/B. HTH

I just completed Hasegawa’s A-7, i don’t know what your weapons load will be but the AIM-9s interfer with what ever you hang on the inner most pylons.

The differances are the A’s through C’s have 1 single barrel 20 MM cannon on each side of the intake , the D’s & E’s have a M-61A1 6 barrel Vulcan Cannon on the left side of the intake, and the A’s, B’s, C’s, E’s have the refueling boom on the right side of the nose, the D Block 1’s have this too but the D Block 2’s have the AFR ( Air Flight Refueling )panel section on the upper left fuselage behind the Cockpit and the USAF’s version has the SWA & Euro 1 camoflage and the USN’s are gloss White under Gull Grey or plain Gull Grey
