Hey guys, does anyone know if there are any A-36 conversion kits out there in 1/48 scale? I specifically need the nose portion (with the chin .50’s). I want to build the entire mustang collection and the prototype and the mustang mk. I (not mk. Ia) all have the chin .50’s. If there’s no conversion kit am I gonna have to purchase two more of these already rare kits? Thanks guys.
I thought one of the Accurate Miniatures P-51s had the chin guns? Maybe I was hallucinating? Koster once issued a P-51A/A-36 conversion kit which had parts to make most of the early Mustang variants.
I just checked my stash. AM kit #3401 is the A-36 with chin guns.

Bill, thanks for the reply. I know that Accurate Miniatures had an A-36, however the “new” Accurate Miniatures did not reissue the kit. Since the bird is so rare I was wondering if I could get away with not buying another one, well two.
The Koster conversion is out of production, but they come up on Ebay sometimes. They usually go cheap because few people want to work with vacuform when they can get the injection molded version.
I just looked on Ebay and there are 3 currently listed, but they do have high opening bids. The molds for those AM kits are floating around. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them reissued in the next couple of years. I know Italeri got a hold of some of the molds.

maybe I can wait until a model show/contest and purchase two of em… i got one this year for $10. Then I could fill in the dive brakes. would that be feasable?
I think so. The Squadron In Action book might tell you for sure. I know there is also an Alison powered Mustang Walk Around book from Squadron.
