I took advantage of the weekend to stay up late finishing up the 1/48 AMT A-20G that’s been on the bench for a while. This was my second entry for the South Pacific GB.
For my shameless plug: check out the other neat builds. Joe Rugby’s got a stunning P-47 he’s super detailing
For the Havoc I used Model Masters Acryl and Polyscale paints. Thanks once again to my wife for the “natural antena wire”.
I really like the Green Hornet nose art and colorful wing tips. The kit itself was farily painless, and True Details tires and life raft were used.
Thanks for taking a look:
True Details resin wheels:
…and next to it’s Biig Brother (B-26)
Comments and critique welcome…that’s how we all learn.
Beautiful job as usual. The only critique I can come up with is that the tires on the main gear need more air in them.[:D] Ha
Great job buddy. I still have a ways to go to finish my B-25 for the GB. Great looking B-26 also. Keep em coming, always enjoy your work.
Thanks Bud, Will, Zip, Swanny, Wing Nut, Dennis, SmokingGun, Jon and Rick.
Zip: Can’t wait to see the B-25…another “must build” for me when I can get my hands on the B version. I can’t keep away from the Doolittle Raider shows on TV.
Swanny: I was hoping to see your A-20 first so I could get some pointers! I keep checking your websight for updates.
Rick: It’s the old AMT kit. I picked it up at the IPMS show in Cincinnati last year for $10. This year’s event in Cincy will be in a few more weeks. I can’t wait!
Wow, a truely fantastic build, very well done. I have that kit in my stash…been there for a few years now, hmmmm… seing yours inspires me…kinda makes me want to tackle it[:)] A project to do after my 1/48 B-17E is finished perhaps?[;)]
Thanks, Brian. The A-20 is neat, but nowhere near as “classic” as the Hudson you’ve recently built (Boy is that turret ugly or what?).
VA: We could trade places…I’ve got a 1/48 Revell B-17F that I’ve been itching to get at. The B-17 is one of my favorites, and since the "F’ is such a hard kit to come by, I want to improve my skills to the point I don’t feel I’ll screw up wide seam lines and raised panel lines before I build it.
As for the AMT A-20 kit, it was pretty straight forward with no major complaints. Just abobut every kit has something that “could have been better”, but no hate mail to AMT from me. I guess the ONE thing (which every review under the sun points out) is to save yourself the time in thinking about it and just get some AM tires. The kit offering looks like it could poke holes in the runway.
Very nice build mucker. By coincidense I just got one( the Italeri rebox) and the wheel/tire set was on sale($2 bucks). I was thinking of geting some resin R-2600"s for it. What do ya think, How was the kit detail?..again great job!
Very nice. Glad to see the Havoc here, i dont think anyone has posted pics of one lately. The B 26 looks good also. Its interesting to see them next to each other and compare the size.[dinner]
The engines are pretty weak, but the saving grace is you really can’t see much of them. For the “average builder” (not severe AMS), the kit enginers suffice, but if you are going to remove panels or showcase the engine, resin is a must. If you can get the R-2600’s for a good price, it definately wouldn’t hurt.
Overall detail (cockpit, landing gear bays, etc.) is acceptable, with exception to the bomb bay…almost no detail at all. It’s as if the kit is double-daring you to build it with the bomb doors closed (which, I did). Again, resin and PE would only make it nicer, but this is more a decision based on personal tastes.
