A-20 info

I got the urge to build an American medium bomber so I was looking around and found an AMT 1/48 A-20j with true details wheels some masks and I think vac canopies. Does anyone have any tips for this kit. I don’t expect too much, the kit was pretty cheap. I’m more of an armor guy so this will probably be quite a challenge. Thanks in advance.

I haven’t built the any of the A-20 kits yet, but have all of them in my “stash”. My Dad worked on them in the Pacific Theater in WWII. The main problem is they have the main gear locating holes about a 1/4 inch to far aft. Check out some pictures of the actual aircarft and you will notice the main tires stick a bit forward of the leading edge of the gear doors. You might check out www.modelingmadness.com for a review on the A-20. The middle build shows the gear moved forward but no mention of it in the review. Check out the placement on the other two builds. Good luck!

Thanks for the info and the link Mel.

I have made a ‘B/C’ and a ‘G’ so far. With the nose, join the relevant half to the fueslage. Don’t join the two nose halves then the fueslage and try and get them together. If you do it the other way there is less alignment problems.

True details does a life raft and wheels update that is good to fill behind the cockpit if you plan to have it open.

Apparantly the tail planes are at the wrong angle and need to be shimmed up a bit.

Thanks for the advice Dave. The J model I have came with the True details wheel set and Masks. I’m impressed with the quality of the kit, its not Tamiya but looks good for an inexpensive kit. Now I just have to settle on a paint scheme.
