Trying to the find the right place to post this question, so please move if necessary. Is anyone aware of the Satcom ant. available aftermarket for the A-10 in 1/48 scale? I am updating a A-10A to a C and this is the last major part I am missing.
I haven’t fully dove into this but I see 1/48th Satcom antennas(variations of)for everything else but the A-10.
If worse comes to worse, you can always scratch build it by using Evergreen sheet stock & rod?.
I’ll keep diggin.
Happy Modeling,
Mike
Yeah I figured as such. I planned to go the scratch build route, but I wanted to check one more time since I am amazed at what people can find that I never see on the 'net. for additional items for model builds.
Have you tried the scalemate website? They often show most many of the upgrades available for any given kit and where to buy them.
I will give that another go. I checked previously and I noticed that PhaseHanger sold an upgrade set with the satcom ant., yet it has been out of production for awhile.
I know that my local hobby shop has a shelf of aftermarket parts that you have to sort through item by item to know what they have. Any chance you have a shop that has a similar shelf? I know it is a long shot but…
I wish, the only local shops are a Hobby Lobby and Michaels. Squadron is a few hours away, not able to do a walk in there.
I thought all the Michael’s went bankrupt a few years ago? Or was that something else…
I hate that, if they were smart, they would put those parts right next to the appropriate kit, so when buying the kit, that upgrade part is right there. No way I’m going to dig through pegs worth of stuff to see if they have what I want.
The way they do it, unless you get lucky, they never sell so why have them?
It’s even worse than that. They literally have a shelf knee high at the end of the row with a couple of boxes sitting on it. Above that are pegs with glue and paint brushes and other odds and ends. You either have to know that the aftermarket items are there or snoop through the boxes. It is a slow, painstaking process with no organization. The owner doesn’t really care if they sell these things. They typically come in when he buys somebody’s stash. Plastic models aren’t really their bread and butter. They’re more of a side business. The owner focuses on diecast models and have a thriving business in that market. I’m just glad they keep the aftermarket stuff and I’m happy to sift through it from time to time.
The hobby shop I visited last week was like that, boxes and peg board with 10" pegs full of random resin parts. I spent about 5 minutes digging through them and as there was no order to them I gave up.
So dumb because with clever merchandising, or a database that tells you what/where stock is he could sell through all those high profit items. I would likely have purchased several if I could have found them.
It’s no wonder these guys are all closing, they are living in the 60’s.
