A-10. Work in progress.

Hi just to show my latest creation, this my first Aircraft dio so please could you guide me in the right direction with your comments.

I know the desert weathering looks very yellow, but it’s not, it looks ok for my first attempt at weathering with pastels.

Good looking build. Not sure what you have in mind as a dio, but just adding some ground crew in realistic poses would be a start.

Regards, Rick

Looks like a good build to me. Some figures would be the easiest way to convey a sense of action. Are they prepping the bird to go out? Or has it just returned from a mission? That kind of thing. It’s up to you, of course. As long as you enjoy it, then who’s to say what is “right” or “wrong”?

I agree with the above.

Looking really aggressive! But that’s how it should be, so you’ve done well!

Scotty;
Your in luck I accually worked that plane during OEF at Bagram AB, Afghanistan back in May to July 2002, not bad but when we where in Bagram the nose art was just 111 with “they ain’t saints” nose art only the hawg nose was not applied until it returned states side if you need more info just drop a line at me at

Scotty, what scale is it? I have a 1/72 Eduard PE A-10 weapons upgrade set, which includes such things as in-scale fins for a variety of weapons, as well as PE jigs to get them on just right. This set is sitting around doing pretty much nothing, since I don’t work in 1/72. Drop me an email if interested.
TOM

Thanx for the replies, I’ve just brought the Hasegawa ground crew, both the a + b kits (1/48) hope this should add the realism, Also sorry to 72cuda for getting the decals wrong I guess I should of checked with the men in the know, Just went off Two bobs decal instructions. Still I’m enjoying the build and have a few more aircraft waiting to be built.

no problem, I know that some of those groups only go by the information that is given at that time when they go out and get the pix of the subject, also on the weathering on the Ole Hawg’s you may want to hit the top of the engine nacells with the “dirt” around the service panels top center of the engines, because that is where they are serviced with oil and some times you get some spilage and with the dirt blowing around it’ll gather around the moisture, also after the gun was fired in the AOR we cleaned the nose ASAP because the bromean soot is very corrosive at this time, and needs to be removed,
if you ever have any questions on the Hawg’s just give me a line and I’ll get back to you ASAP 72cuda@gimail.af.mil

Nice looking Warthog you got going Scotty. My only question would be about the ground support equipment. Is that part of the kit? a seperate kit or scratchbuilt?

I think if it just returned from a mission, it will be cool to put some missiles and bombs but not on every hard point (it fired some missiles on mission)

((excuse my english, I don’t know many specific words))

PolluxDeltaSeven;
well when they went hitting on the Al Qeada & Taliban they flew with only 4 MK82’s and 750 rounds of 30MM( the heat & altitude was the factor for light loads ), and they came back totally empty, but for most of the missions flown during OEF they came back fully loaded well except for the fuel they burnt off, but they did engage the Terrorist’s 2 times within the time frame when we where there

72cuda:
ok, thank for the precisions

Is it possible that a A-10 came back from a mission with ECM pods, fuel tanks and no bombs (it fired them on Taliban’s position for example)? I done a Revell A-10 but I haven’t yet armed it.
That’s why i’m so curious :wink:
The Hog is one of my favourit aircraft, I want to be as reallistic as possible.

Pollux

Awood23, The ground crew and equipment will be hasegawa kits (U>S ground crew sets A + B).

Scotty,
Your A-10 is looking very good. It is a great airplane and hopefully will be around for a long time to come. Your model does it justice. [alien]

Nice job, Scotty! I just hope my FAP (Peruvian Air Force) bird turns out half as nice!

PolluxDeltaSeven;
when we went into Afghanistan we flew them directly from Kuwait, they where armed with 4 MK82’s, 2 SUU-14 pods with 7 2.75 rockets each, 1 ALQ-119 pod on Lt wing or station #1, and some times a AGM-64H(Infrared Maverick) the 600 gal fuel tanks where left in Kuwait, and during the ferry flight they where IFR’d (9.5 hr flt) after the HIT they petty much came back empty except for some of the 2.75 rockets that failed to fire off but these are for marking the targets for the fast movers ( B-1’s, F-15, F-16’s & F/A-18’s ) at high altitudes
but when we went into Iraq we flew them in with the 600’s from Kuwait to Tallil and dropped them there and flew with out the 600’s but we (KC- 442 FW) flew with the LITENING II pods on station #8

I didn’t know that. Interresting thing for my model.
I thank you 72cuda for all these informations.

Pollux.

PolluxDeltaSeven;
no problem, also there was another A-10 unit that flew with the LITENING II’s but after 1 May 2003 they went back States side and we went up north to Kirkuk AB and we where involved with most of the members of the Iraqi Playing Card Club’s capture or demise because for what the capablities of the LITENING II pods, now all A-10’s are modified for this capability, kinda nice to look through walls and find your FOE before they see you

ok 72 !
The LITENING II pod looks great !!
I heard that F-15 and Eurofighter will be capable of this pod (or is that Sniper Pod for the F-15E? Don’t remember)

Tell me 72cuda, is there a webbsite about your A-10 unit?? [;)]
