A-10 trouble: Part 2

The 1/72 superdetailed A-10 is nearly finished.
The cockpit i found contains over 100 parts. 50 alone on the scratchbuilt ejection seat. And the rest i lost count.
I found that i encountered trouble with wings of the A-10 particularly the flaps. I cant find reference pics of the flaps so i have no idea how they look in real life. Some pics of the flaps could really help bring this A-10 up and running again. Damian

Are you talking about the decelerons? If you are, I’ve got some pics. I’ve been dabbling with a Revell 1:48th A-10 for a few months on & off, and was having trouble getting flap pics so I could model the moulded open decelerons in a closed position. In the end a crew chief sent me some he’d taken himself!

Let me know if you’d like them & I’ll email them to you.

what are you wanting to know about the flaps? I’ve worked the ole Hawgs for a few years, are you going to display them down?, the only time the flaps are extended is when they are doing the pre-flight checks, or when they are rolling into the chalks after flight, same with the Speed Brakes (decelerons), the flaps are of the Fouler type and roll aft & down, give me you email addy and I’ll try to send you some pix of the Hawgs in Iraq going out & coming in from missions

Hey 72 cuda did you work on the A-10 in Iraq?
How cool!! The closest thing we probably got to the A-10 in Australia is the F-111except that does’nt come with a 30mm on its nose!!. [:)]
I think im looking for the speed brakes.I wanted to build a diorama of a A-10 on the ground in Iraq, so i guess i’ll be looking to model the flaps in the lowered position. Did the A-10s in Iraq get the Olive green, variation camo?. Thanks again guys.

Thanks again.

well all the Hawg’s are now painted Ghost Gray scheme, Light Ghost gray on lowers, Dark Ghost Gray on uppers and Gunship Gray on bottom under the cockpit (if you have an old Monogram 1/72 scale A-10 kit it has in the instructions if the MASK Scheme but with FS #'s) the “Olive” Scheme was the Euro I Scheme and Deleted back in 1991,
Like I said before the flaps & speed brakes are only opened during the pre-flight ops check’s and the pilot is in the office and a crew chief would be under/behind the tail of the plane when there opened in this phase of the operation, and the C/C would be in front to the left when the plane is rolling into the chalks and some times there are 2 other ground crewpersons (can’t say crewmen any more because women are doing the same jobs now) at the wing tips (wing walkers) and there job is to chalk the main tires and inspect the flaps & S/B’s after flight when the C/C is instructing the pilot of findings at post flight as for the Aardvark’s they have the awsome low level speed to their credit’s, I’ve seen a 111 (from Cannon AFB NM at the time{now I’m dating myself) back at Nellis AFB Bombing Range do a high speed (Mach I{700 MPH) low level (200 ft) live arms bomb run with 24 MK-82’s and crator a make shift runway that was about 2 & 1/2 miles long, after that I fell in love with the ole Aardvarks (I was working on their lil sister the F-16 at that time)

i do know that this web site has a ton of pics of a-10s… http://www.a-10.org/photos/photos2.asp

there is a bunch of sites to go to to see the Hawg’s but If you could go back a few months and see there is one person out there who worked them in Depot and his call sign is DICE on this forum but for the life of me I can’t find his website anymore on my computer
