A-10 Hog in progress

Hey all, this is kind of a side project from working on my centurion, so its OOB, no AM parts or anything. This is a cool kit excpt the panel decals, and raised panel lines. I have had a littl silvering problem on the decals, They shouldnt have, I put them on a gloss coat. I was hoping a flat over the top of em would hide the little problem , but it didnt. Oh well if anyone has any Ideas on that one let me know, Oh , and comments are always welcome. This is the hase 1/48 scale kit and it is done in 81st TFW, 511th TFS Bentwaters AFB England.

thanks for looking

jim

When a decal “silvers” even on a gloss surface, it can sometimes be remedied by applying one or more coats of Micro Sol or Solvaset. Solvaset is pretty strong, so you probably should test it on an inconspicuous decal or apply an extra one to a test panel and try it on that.

After reading this, I went and checked, and I have a bottle of decal set ( guess I should have paid attention) . Thanks Darwin [8D], I didnt even think to use decal set, I dont usually have this problem.

That’s a good looking tank killer you’ve got there. Very subtle camo scheme, too. (Or is that shadows playing tricks on my eyes?) Can’t wait to see the finished product.

Looks great!!

Looking good so far. I don’t recall Hasegawa doing an A-10 in 1/48. Is it a reboxed Monogram ?

Regards, Rick

Yes, nice looking “Hog” indeed! [:)] Sorry to hear of the decal woes, but I’m sure you’ll get it sesolved now… thanks for letting us see! [:)]

Take care,
Frank

Looking very nice such a great shape a really distincive aeroplane - should really finish my Tamiya version. Just one problem it’s in England and I’m in Oz.

nice looking Hog you got there…just curious, did you weight the nose? Could be camera effect but it looks like it is tail sitting a bit…

Looks great so far.

It seems the best gloss undercoat is future. Applied before and after, the guys here have mentioned it helps on reducing or eliminating decal silvering…

Also, make sure you allow proper dry times for any step…When everything has dried and cured well it will be likely to come out better.

Take Care,
Tank

Looking good so far.

Cant wait to see the finished product…

Nice looking kit! Never saw one with the outboard wing area painted red and what’s with the slat area, looks white?? [?]

Your Hogs comming along nicely Jim. In the past I have had the dreaded Silvering aswell. I took a sharp pin and poked a million and one holes in the decal and then aplied decal sol/set whatever and the decal set right down. Be sure to post the finished model. Happy modeling. Trevor

dice, I painted the inside of the slat area white, but have yet to install the slats. The outside of the slat will be camo.

tank, I have used future in the past, but have had problems with it cracking, and that doesnt cover too well, I think I will apply 2 coats of gloss, and one more over the decals, I’m thinking that might work.

joe, It is tailsitting, but I planed on putting it on a base from the beginning, so its butt sitting is ok for now [:D]

rick, I screwed up, its a Tamiya kit (the wife is doing a hasegawa harrier, so I got confuzzled). Sorry my mistake [:I]

thanks for all the comments and advice
