A-10 formation light locations

I am building an A-10 and the decals come with formation lights (I’ve heard them referred to as slime lights too) but does not show where they go on the model. I was able to use a walk-around for the lights on the tail fins and wing tips, but the rest of the lights are puzzling me. Does anyone know where the correct placement for these are?

Thanks in advance!

There’s an “L” shaped slime light behind the cockpit that is off-set to port from the centerline…I don’t have my refs in front of me to say where exactly it goes in regard to the various antennae blades and the GPS blister. Sorry…

Jake Melampy’s Modern Hog Guide: The A-10 Warthog Exposed is an awesome resource… it will definitively answer this question for you.

Thanks for ID-ing one of the lights. So the L shaped one goes behind the cockpit, how far behind? Is the point towards the front or rear? The book sounds like a good resource, Ill have to pick it up someday, but seeing as I don’t have it now it does me little good. [:^)]

Pointy end forward! (that’s actually good advice with many applicable uses)

If you can hold on for another hour or so, I’ll be at home and will be able to look up the lights for you in that book.

sure thing, I’ll move on to other decals in the mean time!

** NOTE: PICS USED FOR DISCUSSION PURPOSES ONLY! **

1st. aft of the cockpit, circled in red

2nd. wingtip location, same-same both sides

3rd. tail, same-same both sides

4th. rear underside of the tail section, TWO stripes of lights

5th. rear upper section of tail, TWO stripes of lights (bottom photo)

Sorry for the lousy pic. quality, I don’t have a scanner. Hope these help!

those help a lot! thanks a bunch!! [t$t]

You’re quite welcome, sir.

After I bought the Trumpeter 1/32 A-10A, I realized that it was going to be one of those special efforts, so I found that book that I mentioned. If you ever plan on doing up another Warthog, I strongly recommend it as the author clearly loves that aircraft and went through a lot of effort to document it through various upgrades. It’s a superdetailers treasure-trove. Melampy also has one out on the F-16 C/D that is equally informative (and explains the Block variations).

there I fixed it, LOL!

I’ll definitely be looking for that book. It does seem like a treasure trove.

Oh, cra…! A thousand and one apologies, ma’am. [:$]

no worries, its a logical assumption to make [;)]
