75th Anniversary of 1942 (World at War)

About a month from now, we’ll enter the new year 2017, and that brings the 75th anniversary of the year 1942. As with the two earlier World at War GB’s the purpose of this one is that we remember the events and sacrifices of the many nations involved in conflict in WWII.
The goal is to build a model of anything that existed in 1942, as it appeared in 1942. Any subject from any nation (Allied, Axis or neutral) is acceptable and desirable: planes, ships, cars, military vehicles, figures, etc., etc., etc. Any scale is eligible according to your personal preferences.
The year 1942 offers up a wide variety of subject material: the war spread into Burma, the Philippines; Wake Island, Coral Sea, Midway. Rommel’s forces were active in North Africa, as was the opposing British 8th Army. The RAF was carrying out bombing raids and “rhubarbs” into the European continent. USAAF heavy bombers began operations from England. The battle for Stalingrad began. US Marines invaded Guadalcanal. If you find any subject matters from popular culture in '42, these would be appropriate, too.
As before, the GB will run from 1 January, 2017 until 31 December, 2020–the 75th anniversary of the year the war ended. That way, new participants can join up any time, and can build a representative model from each year of the war, from start to finish.
The events of each year during the war are too momentous to forget or neglect.
Here’s the badge for the 1942 anniversary build.

Thanks for your participation!

Hi Check, put me down for a 1/35 Daimler Dingo from Miniart.

I will be doing it in Calgary regiment colours, to commemorate the raid on Dieppe.

regards,

Jack

Goes without saying. Put medown for the Dragon 1/35th Pz II Ausf. Another urban dio, this time a factory ruin in Stalingrad.

Welcome to the GB, Jack and Bish. Always glad to have your participation!

Jack, I’ve read all of Mark Zuehlke’s books on the Canadians in Europe after Juno Beach, including Tragedy at Dieppe. He’s a vibrant and compelling author. Most of us south of the border have little awareness about Canada’s participation in the war.

Bish, I’ve read Enemy at the Gates a few times over the years, also Antony Beevor’s Stalingrad. Hitler Moves East has always kept my interest, too. It ends with the surrender of the German Sixth Army. Stalingrad was certainly a decisive event in the war.

I look forward to seeing your builds. They’re always top-notch! Thanks for joining in.

I’m in. not sure with what yet

Glad to have you join, tj! I’ll update the roster with a “TBD.”

Check,

I’d like to jump in with the 1/350 Aoshima 1942 Takao. I don’t know yet if she will be in a seascape or on a stand.

Roster is updated, Steve. Looks to be an awesomely impressive ship.

Shaw! I need to take a pic of the trees! I will also be buying the PE set for her.

At 1/350, this must be loaded with parts–and the PE should make it all the more outstanding. I look forward to seeing it come together.

Thanks for joining up with the GB!

Here are the sprue trees.

That is a lot!

And a 13 page instruction book as well.

I orderd the White Ensign Models PE set for it so they should be here in a week or so.

You’re going to be one busy shipbuilder.

I think I’ll get in on this one as well. I have no idea what I’ll build, but it’s safe to say I have something in the stash from 1942. Likely and Avenger or Helldiver, or something along those lines, and 1/48 scale. I’ll update you when I figure that out.

BK

Edit: Put me down for a Battle of Midway Vindicator, 1/48 Accurate Miniatures

I’d like to get in on this with the 1/48 Zevda bf109 F-4 please.

Put me down for these three,

Dragon 1/35 Panzer III Ausf. N
