64 years ago . . .

Sixteen B-25B Mitchell bombers took off from the deck of the USS Hornet, biund for Tokyo. This is my tribute to those 80 brave airmen.

April 18, 1942 Doolittle Raid

Nice tribute to the Doolittle Raiders, Bill. I take it that’s your recently completed model in the photograph? Very nicely done.

I had the good fortune of attending their 2004 reunion and meeting many of those men–true heroes.

Mark

One of the ballsiest missions of the war. Great movie about it too.

You mean the movie that Van Johnson was in back in either '43 or '44 right. [:D]

The movie that had Ben Affleck in a few years ago… the planes looked good, but don’t get me started on the acting or the script… [soapbox][2c]

I saw on the Wright/Paterson Museum website that the public can purchase tickets to this year’s reunion. Can’t go this year, maybe next. There was a great “War Stories” by Oliver North this past Sunday on the mission. Those 80 guys defined “hero” when the nation need some.

A huge and much needed boost to U.S. moral indeed. Thanks Pix.

Jerry

Thanks Mark, shaun, mph32, and Jerry !

Mark - yes, the B-25 is the Accurate Miniatures kit that I just finished building. The background is the Japanese coastline, which I got from Google Earth. If you play around with the angles, altitudes, and “3D” terrain, you can get some backgrounds that work well for inflight images.

I’m glad you like my tribute to the Doolittle Raiders. Deeds like theirs need to be remembered.

Yep, that’s the one mph34. A classic you can watch over & over. It’d be great to see it in colour though.
