Comments and suggestions are welcome!

Another 5 solid builds by AI. The kid has a great season in front of him, so long as he doesnt get traded to the minor leagues…[zzz]

You want a suggestion ? Here’s a suggestion. Get AI, Tuk, and the rest of your indentured servants, a computer, so they can log on to this site, and pass on some of their obvious skills to people here, and people here, can pass on some kudos to the builders, instead of YOU.

WOW, that T-72 and LVT are especially gorgeous builds! The finishes are very nice, and the weathering is excellent!

The others are also nicely finished–I do believe that the Ostwind would have had zimmerit applied though. Still, it is nicely finished.

AI has a nice, “moderate” appraoch to weathering–I’m surprised that more guys here don’t comment on his relatively “clean” builds?

My reasons for not commenting are simple…AI’s not here, not part of the community, and doesn’t show much improvement over time or inclination to improve for that matter (we’ve been seeing AI’s work for years and know the whole story about why he does work for MM). MM himself doesn’t comment in other threads or show interest in any one else’s work and so, personally, I don’t view him as a contributing entity either here in the Armor forum. Rather than spend the time commenting and offering critique on fundamental, basic, issues that AI repeats over and over, I look in on occasion but don’t comment as I feel it would, literally, be a waste of typing time and space. [;)]

…I think that not a lot of folks comment on any of MM’s posted work in here anymore not because they begrudge him from being a collector, but because he has yet, or rarely, ever commented on anyone else’s work in here…I know that’s been my stand…

Again, I have nothing against MM; I just think if you want the Forum to interact with you, you have to interact with it…did MM comment on your Horny-Z?

Wow…we literally typed those two posts at the same time…

I agree totally with Bill’s comments. For a couple of years now, MM has been posting his procured works from AI. At one time, MM posted a link to his blog which showed is private home (museum). It is incredible as he has actually constructed out buildings with full display cases to display literally thousands of models that he has purchased finished.

Obviously he is a wealthy individual by Phillipine standards, and he is obsessed with collecting. Many of us have responded to his postings by trying to convince him that he could do much better than AI when commissioning builds.

The issue is he rarely responds to any constructive criticism, and then he acts in total defense of AI. I remember a particular exchange with Gino (Heavy Arty) on a US contemporary AFV (maybe an M1?). Gino blistered AI’s butt pretty good, and the exchange was not productive because as Bill has said, the guy (MM) is not a builder and he can’t relate to the critiques. Since he has no modeling experience, he can’t effectively give feedback, and, the check has already been written, so to speak.

Sort of like the ultra wealthy person who collects classic cars, they have no idea how to change a sprk plug, they just can’t relate to a gear head who actually restored or built the car. The only exception I can think of is Jay Leno. MM is no JAy Leno boys…

Don’t you kind of put MM between a rock and a hard place? I mean, if he did comment on other’s builds, people would say “What does he know, he doesn’t build models.”

I think AI’s builds are fine. I don’t mind if MM just posts pictures and that’s it. I understand that some people don’t like the fact that AI doesn’t “improve” his builds to the level exceptable by FSM modelers. But, that’s his choice. Who cares…

‘Bout the same as a paintballer givin’ tactical advice to line-troops…

Well, Bill, crockett, Manny–I understand your positions entirely. I also admit that it bugs me that MM doesn’t participate more in giving feedback.

Jesse, MM actually does build as well, and he’s actually quite talented, but as I understand it, he doesn’t have the time anymore to build?

I dunno–to be honest, the guy has his peculiarities, but you gotta admit, he’s got skin a mile thick, and I give him credit for coming back for more. I guess that I relate on one level–if it stokes him up a little bit to get some coments and feedback, well, to be honest, I know where he’s comng from-- and like Jesse said, “Who cares”?

It’s weird how I’ve come 180 on this; I"m probably a grand hypocrite somehow regarding all of it; point it out if you see it?! [:-^]…[;)]

I stand corrected. I didn’t know he built models. All of the models I remember seeing him post were built by someone else.

Jesse

Well, he’s sorta like a “fire-and-forget” missile…he comes in, posts his latest pics and then comes back a couple of weeks later to receive the positive praise and ignores the rest…I’m not sure I call that thick skin…but again, to be honest, I couldn’t give a @#$!*. I don’t care if he posts his work in here or not.

…but, I will never again comment on the builds he posts as I find it somewhat selfish and a little disrespectful that he never bothers to comment on our work…and to be honest I would take this stand with anyone…to those that wish to comment on his work, that’s fine with me…

I don’t care one way or the other…that’s why I don’t comment on his builds or his threads. That, ultimately, was the question you asked and I answered accordingly. [;)] It doesn’t bother me for MM to post up AI’s work and links to his sites that showcase his collection. He buys kits, has them built, and shows them off. No harm, no foul in my book…but not something that I would feel like commenting on in terms of posting. That’s all…I’m 100% Swiss on this issue. [:)]

Manny, Bill, just to clarify–I didn’t post that post there with any rancor or derision intended, rest assured. I respect your decisions and opinions–I used to feel that way myself. Like I said, I don’t know what made me change my mind? [:)]

No explanation needed, doog—I got what you are saying and I think we are basically on the same page, other than I won’t comment on his collection for the reasons I have already stated…I have no ill-feelings towards MM, just don’t care for his disinterest in others’ work in the Forum…

Well, as an armor newbie I learned a lot from feedback left by many on the not-so good AI builds of the past, like many pointers from Gino et al. Now that AI is (apparently) better, MM posts are near useless to me.

Harsh to say I guess, but I dont look for MM posts anymore and the usual lessons contained therein, which was to me their only value.

More clean, but unremarkable builds. Here’s some positive criticism, MM: Suggest to AI that, next time he builds a model with significant amounts of glazing, such as that Hummer, he masks the windows, and doesn’t remove the masking until after he’s sprayed the final coat of matt varnish. That way, you might be able to see through them:

Cheers,

Chris.

I liked seeing the picture of the FlakPanzer as I will soon be constructing the 4 gunned version and the Monogram box does not have any pictures, just drawings. The instruction sheet has only black and white photos. It’s an oldie that came with a catalog showing 1/48 scale models for $1.50 and 1/32 for $2.00.
Any how, thank you for the postings. I enjoy seeing AI’s builds, “clean” or otherwise, but then, I’m kind of a “Factory Fresh” guy myself.
Maybe one day I’ll be able to afford a digital camera and will be able to put myself in the crosshairs.

I agree that comments may not be worthwile for MM and his gang of builders, however I find many of the comments on the dioramas VERY helpful.

I hope that the non-commenters, would consider continuning comments on the diorama posts of MM, even though MMs builders won’t learn from them others here will learn

just a thought

If he were a Filipino then yes, he can be considered wealthy. And as a Thai, (he lives in Thailand), I believe that he can be considered wealthy as well.
