4WD Pulling Truck

Need cars guys help, I normally build armor but your club has decide to have a group build but we can build what ever we want I want something different. I decided on a 4WD pulling truck but can’t find any kits on this subject except the MAD MUDDER truck from revell I think this is not what I want. Any help would be great. Thanks[yeah]

The only help I can offer, is to tell you about what I’ve seen up here when the rednecks hold their annual festival which includes truck pulling. There are local guys and guys that travel the circuit that compete.

There’s any and all kinds of trucks that enter the competition. Anything from old beater rust bucket farm rigs to the dragster looking rail trucks with twin motors and blowers.

If you can’t find one of those rail pulling trucks, you can always customize a pickup kit.
Lower the front a little and add weight blocks.
Raise the rear and hang a tow chain from frame rail to frame rail.
Add a dash mounted tach.
Increase the horsepower.
Carve the threads in the tires.
Don’t go past the redline.
Start in 2nd gear.
And let her rip!

Oh yeah, you should have a driveshaft safety hoop and a tranny blanket, mud flaps optional.

If I were building one, here’s how I’d start.
1st the axles. You have two options for a “hard core” truck. the first are Rockwells from a deuce and a half. The other are portals off a unimog. I would use the driveshafts included with the axles.

2nd, the tires. Most OHV mud trucks use tall tractor tires. I’m not sure where you can find those.

3rd-whatever you want as a body and for frame rails. I have seen an old stingray corvette and a 2nd gen Eclipse as mud “trucks”. But something with an American V8 would be cool, stack pipes optional.

Humm… that’s why I stirred clear of the Monster Trucks using the deuce and a half axles [Rockwells]. If I understood you correctly you want a “pulling” truck? Examples below -

Mud racing -

Try a Google Image search using different terms, such as - truck pulling or mud racing, you’ll get the idea. Even if you can’t find a specific kit to match what you are looking for, you can always improvise and customize. [;)]

I’ve already order a deuce and half for the driveline I have motor and trans out of another kit and a body off a another kit I can scrach build the front suspension and make the rear sold myself but what need is tires the ones that are custom cut for sport anyother ideas and thanks for the guys.

If it’s going to be 4 wheel drive, then you what both the front and rear tires the same size. Rear wheel drive (2 wheel drive) has the bigger tires in the rear and smaller tires up front.

Local guys run any M+S tire they happen to have. But the Pro’s use tires as seen in the above photo’s. I’m not sure where you’ll find an exact match for your model.

what tread are you looking for? Tractor tires or more like Super Swamper TSLs?
Here are some 1/24 TSLs with rims. But they only look like 35s max. You need something like 40s for Rockwells to look believable.

Thanks for the tip jhande ya it’s going to be 4WD I may have to custom cut some tires myself.

to make tractor tires, you could take the deuce’s tires, sand them bald, then glue strip styrene for the tread.
