4th of July Gift

Well I was kind of bummed that I had to work on the 4th. But all that changed when I walked into my home and found a gift waiting for me.[:D] My awesome girfriend went out and picked up a new model for my stash. I received Tamiya’s Republic P-47D Thunderbolt “Bubbletop”.

If anyone has built this kit, can you advise me on what I will be getting my self into? Is there any aftermarkit items I should think about getting? Any information will be appreciated.

I have also included a picture of Jeepers, my modeling assistant. She is making sure nothing is going to happen to my new kit.

I will say you are a brave man, I wouldnt let my cat near any of my modeling stuff

Sounds like you have a keeper.

Nice cat.

That is not a cat… it’s a Styrene Dragon! They are kinda like Gold Dragons, they can only sleep on top of an unopened model kit.[(-D]

That is an excellent kit! The only areas that I had any issues with was the seam running through all of the detail on the bottom. It’s not a problem with the kit, just a lot of work. Otherwise, one of the best models I have ever worked on!

It’s a great kit, best Jug kit available IMHO. Fit of the front windscreen is a little tricky, but once you figure it out, it all fits great.

Regards, Rick

Ah! She’s the “Lost Parts and Camoflage Department”.[(-D]

That is one special lady you got there! [tup] [tup] [tup] The cat is pretty cool, too! [8D]

Great kit, lot’s of detail excellant fit, i’m working on their 1/48 Razorback, AND Bubbletop, as well as Hase’s 1/32 Bubbletop sorta all at the same time[8D]

I’ve built the Razorback last year, and it was a very nice kit to build. No nasty surprises. So I added the bubble top to my stash.
Give the cat the box when you are done and keep the girlfriend. A couple of times a year my wife, in effect, gives me a blank check and says “Go to the hobby store and get whatever you want”. Gaaaaaaa

I have the kit in my stash, but haven’t built it. But as others have said, I have heard it’s a very nice kit and one of, if not the, best 1/48 kits for the P-47D.

A scratch built or after market setabelt is about all you need to add to the tamiya bubbletop. Great, great kit.

You are a lucky man, Dave! I’d hang on to that one!

Frank,
Thank you , and yes I’ll be holding onto this one for a verrrry loooong time.

Cheers
Dave
