48th Stuka

Anyone no what actually lurks in the Revell 1/48 Stuka ju87 d kit that Walmart sell for 7.98. I am sort of afraid to open it because if it is a dog we’ll you know you feel compelled, almost challenged to the death to build it. It seems you never know what you will get with Revell these days sometimes it is a great reboxing like the Promodel Stuka, a really good reboxing like the G-10 or an ancient thing of flash like the P40b. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I picked one up the other week, thought for $7 or so go ahead and add it to the stash. Looking at the kit in my hands right now…guess it was molded in China in 1968 according to the mold mark found on the bottom of the left wing trailing flaps. The kit has raised panel lines no surprise there since it is a Revell model, there’s sink marks on the upper halves of the bombs, limited, very limited cockpit details. The rear machine gun needs to be replace with an aftermarket one. No swastika on the decal sheet, whichs looks a bit thick but I usually always buy aftermarket decals anyways.

It’s certainly no Hasegawa or Promodel kit, but for the price I would build it as a break so to relax in between more stressful projects. I would really be upset if I were to shell out big bucks for this kit but for the asking price it’s not too bad.

Thanks for the quick reply. I figured it would have to be an older molding. But your right for the price one could just slap it together as diorama bait. The main reason I bought it was for the nightfighter version it addresses in the product description. From what you can see can one really get a D-8 out of the kit?

Thanks

I also bought this kit. The cockpit is very basic and lacks detail. I used it as a test bed for my first attempt at re-scribing panel lines. All in all I think that it came out OK. The photo’s are a bit blurry - I have a new camera which I haven’t used a whole lot yet. Thanks!

It was a good offering for the day. The basic shape and detail is correct. It will never be confused for a Tamagawa kit but when done looks respectable on your shelf. I build several back in the day and they go together with no major fit problems. Definelty worth the asking price.
