Are we going to have a 48 hour build challenge this year? It is that time of the year.
How does this work? Can you explain the rules?
For this challenge, you have 48 hours to build a model from start to finish. You post a picture of the non -started kit with a time stamp. you then have 48 hours to post a picture of the completed model with a time stamp. If you want to post photos as the build progresses, that is encouraged. So If you start a model at 8;00 am on Friday, you have until 8:00 AM on Sunday to complete the kit. Its a grind, but it is a bit satisfying to complete it. The key is to pick a simple kit. For example, the last one I did was an Academy 1/72 P-51. Small kit, low parts count but still a challenge to complete in 48 hours.
A great idea, but I think I would likely have a stroke or a cardiac trying to meet that challenge.
I couldn’t even finish my Toon Tanks in 48 hrs,but I have seen some good work.
Trust me, the models I finish doing this challenge would never win any contest, but they did turn out respectable. It is a fun challenge if you want to push yourself.
Look up the old Weekend Madness GBs on here. They were run annually on the old forum since around 2007 or 2008, usually starting around Thanksgiving weekend, give a week or two on either side.
It’s all up to a member to make it happen. Put out a feeler on here, see if there’s enough interest, choose GB window, set up a thread on the GB sub forum for participants, and ramrod it thru.
I’m way too obsessive to rush through any kit in 48 hours. I’m not trashing the idea, it’s just not for me. For those than can and do…best of luck and happy modeling!
I don’t join group builds anymore, haven’t for years. Because I have too many builds that I started and then got stalled, to start yet another build, and add yet another build to my Shelf of Doom.
This is exactly the kit I built for the last 48 hour (Weekend Madness) GB on here.
Sounds like a lot of fun, I won’t be able to participate, bench time is limited and I’m lucky to get three kits completed in a year ![]()
This was the first one I remember participating in

Ahh,the Photobucket days, those were pretty nice for 48 hrs,and more complicated then I thought.
Yes, I’m interested, could be fun, it’s winter in Seattle.
Boy, that photo bucket thing really sucked, so glad we don’t need that anymore.
This sounds like the type of thing I’d sign up for, but then drink too much coffee to paint effectively
Choose a subject with a nice overall monotone paint scheme…. ![]()
