Hey everyone, I’m Charlie from Georgia.
Few years away from retirement, software engineer for a large school district.
I’m back and ready to take the new challenge of detailed and realistic builds.
1st build back was the '69 302 Boss Mustang and currently working on a '81 Z28 Camaro.
Learning from all you pros out there and loving the creative ideas and technics that I’m seeing and trying my own ideas. Still making plenty of mistakes but leaning as I go and certainly enjoying the process!
Cheers!
69 Boss:
Welcome Charlie. You do really nice work. Like your Boss Mustang, the background looks nice with this pic. Thanks for joining the forum, your posts are very much appreciated. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Welcome back to the hobby! I suspect many of us took time off as work and kids dominated our time…the Stang looks really good and your backdrop was a great touch to add lots of realism. The tools, kits and techniques have evolved so much in 40 years, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
Enjoy, I thought it went together pretty good. This one was my first model in 40 years and certainly my first with all the details. Good look with yours and please share a picture!
That’s a good looking Boss 302 Mustang Charlie. The forced perspective shot gives it a realistic appearance and I did a double take on my initial viewing of it because I thought it was a 1:1 example for just a sec there.
Camaro interior is looking pretty hot too with plenty of detailing.
Welcome aboard and am looking forward to seeing more of your work in action.
Hey Charlie,
Wow! Quite a nice first effort after 40 years. I’m also in the process of a first model back as my “retirement hobby” to model my 1:1 cars as I built them 50 years ago. Between finding period correct parts, learning new techniques, dealing with the fact that 1/25 scale is so much smaller in 2026 and 7 surgeries with cataracts scheduled, I’m going on 3 years. Your Mustang is a grand start with an equally fine start to the Camaro…the hobby with the internet is so much more enjoyable and the encouragement an inspiration are wonderful.
Thanks Joe! I was impressed myself! I no idea these pictures would turn out so good. Added some more pictures of the now finished Z28. Still need to hone in on my airbrushing skills. I’m still learning and enjoying so it’s all good.
Thanks Bill! I surprised myself with that picture! I could become a hermit and never come out of the basement but the wife requires a little more attention… good that she still love me so it’s all good. I added some glamour shots of the Z28. Still need to improve my airbrushing skills but I’m learning on each pass.
Thank you, sir! Enjoy it. I would love to have the real life experience with 1:1 like you’ve had. Knowing the workings and parts required for a car to run is valuable! I wish you luck on the little cars and hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Be patient and take your time, as you said the internet has so much to offer with tip and techniques that it can be overwhelming but it’s also great to see how others approach the hobby for the realistic effects they achieve. Good luck with those eyes, growing old S___ and it aint for sissies! Haha!
