Comments and suggestions are welcome!

Those look pretty nice, I get a lot started but they usually end up as shelf queenige until I get a part for them get interested in them again.

There all fantastic, I wonder what that wagon cart dio in the end of the index is.

All look great, but I really dig the LVT.

While not stellar, these appear to be good, basic builds.

I really like the KVII in German markings there!

Nice chipping around the mantlet!

Well, ya gotta love a captured Italian tank witrh Aussie markings as used by the “Rats of Tobruk”. I echo what Al said. Although with only one photo each, and not too close up either, its difficult.

[V]Oh, Model Maniac how I pity you. When will you learn that the real point of modeling is to build you own model. Not to pay someone to do the work for you. [sigh]

Guys, I’ll admit that I used to be oneof the people here who use to give MM a hard time, but the more I thiought about it, the more I realized that there was no point in it.

A few days ago, I got a call from a guy from Texas who wanted to know how much money it would cost him to have me build him a model just like my Nomad in my “Lair of the Rust Bunnies” dio.

So, in effect, he’s paying ME to build him a model. Should we judge him the same? Or me?

Heavy Arty just finished a model for a guy whom, I presume, paid him in some fashion?–that wonderful M577.

So MM pays guys to build him models–he posts their names here; he’s not trying to take credit for them, so why do we still have a problem with this?

If nothing more, we get to see what a certain kit can look like from one person’s “point of build”. Some of them are good, some great, others really not too good–MM isn’t taking credit for them though.

Actually, for those of you who just heard “the rumours”, MM is apparently a successful businessman with some money in a place with perhaps a not-so-great economy. He claims to have given loans to these guys to buy houses, and, to pay him back, these guys build him models. So they don’t get the criticisms; big deal–they’re probably not even concerned about impressing us here–they don’t even speak our language! SO…they keep their money; MM gets a few more models.

I don’t know; call me crazy, but I don’t think that’s a bad arrangement at all? Build models = own your own house?!

I’ve come full circle on this. Really. It doesn’t bother me a bit. [:)]

I have a guy up here who recently has repaired my truck–brake lines, hoses, inspection, calipers–all for free! I keep offering to pay him (got him a few gas cards) and he just asks me to figure out a solo here and there-Ronnie Montrose one week, Allman brothers one other. In effect, I’m “bartering” my “services” the same way Art Instructor and Tuk are. ANd I sleep pretty good at night.

I have that M13/40 in the stash.I always wondered about the quality of the kit. Thanks to MM’s pic,I have visual proof that it can be built up real nice.

I agree with most of the above. I don’t really care that someone else is building them. Like you said, I build models for others and get paid for it. Nothing wrong with that. My buyers are not coming on here acting like an A$$ and trying to show off “his” latest models either though. Then being rude to people when they critique the mediocre models. It is his crappy attitude and that he is only looking for everyone to fawn over the models paying him all sorts of praise for what…buying them. That is what I have issues with.

Just as an aside, perhaps some of what we’ve been saying on the forums imay be getting through to the builders…

No "armor all"ed shiny black tyres that I can see in this series…

Well, I hear ya Gino–I thought it was kinda weird at first too when he “takes his bows” for these models that he buys.

The only thing I can figure is that it’s a cultural thing? I have to say that, in the beginning, he was really quite a good sport about the incessant ragging I used to do on him. I don’t think he ever really got “snappy”. Hey–I think he can’t help but respond to some of the more persistent slams; that’s just human nature, IMHO.

I don’t know; now that I think of it, I just bought a Pz IV track off of eBay, and came on here “showing it off” in a post–even though all I did was buy it! LOL! [%-)] Wierd! [:-^] Don’t slam me! LOL! [(-D]

Like I said–it’s a chance to see some models built up that we might not otherwise ever build ourselves. As for MM “looking for praise”; well…hmm…I just don’t get worked up over that any more. Whatever flips your wig, ya know? [swg]

Doog, don’t worry. We won’t slam you. You actually build models and participate in the forum other than just looking for kudos.

Gino,

Looks like we have a visitor again…

Just don’t feed it.[troll]

[:D][:D][:D]

Im indifferent to MM… on one side, he isnt really showing off these models as his own, looking for kudos pretending its his work. He tells us there from his ‘art instructor’ (what this art instructor is we may never know, sex slave, tenant, a swarm of umpa lumpas, GLaDOS, we may never know)

He shows off these kits as his AI’s work, so whatever kudos are given are given to his AI, he makes that plain sure. Only problem I have with MM here is the one time he told me that he would only share a secret technique with me as long as I didnt tell anyone else…

Other then that hes just showing off AI’s (his friend’s?) work. Nothing wrong with that.

As far as the kits go. Let me pass on some pedagogy that I learned in my Brass Methods class (learn to play and teach brass instruments)

No amount of skill, technique, tricks, or hardware can make up for not knowing your fundimentals.

While the paint jobs are nice, and they look really good, Ill admit, I see seams, and problems of that kind. Tell your living doctor’s table (since we still dont know this AI is human) that they need to take the time and make sure all seams are filled, all gaps are ungapped, all mold lines are sanded away. If they do that their kits will look alot better.

Please let that bit of info get to them

If that’s an accurate statement and was made as such (not as a joke) that’s part of the problem people have with MM. Anyone else would be happy to share their knowledge, both modeling based and general life based, with the other posters here. Look at any post asking the question, “how do you do X?” and read the number of responses.

Al,

It is, in fact and sadly, an accurate statement. In case you missed it, I have taken the liberty of lifting the quote Smeagol was refering to. It can be found in MM’s thread ‘Russian Tankmen at Rest’ over in the dios thread. Any sympathy I felt for the bashing MM takes when he posts his work went out the window when I read this…
