3M Acryl Blue putty?

Is anyone using this putty?
I heard a lot of good things about it on another forum and wondered if it was popular here at all?
It can be sanded in only 30 minutes according to the info I found on it on the web. That sounds like some good stuff to me.

Mike,
I’ve used it in the past, and liked it real well. The consistancy is good and shrinkage isn’t bad. Yes, you can sand it in 30 to 40 minutes after application. My problem is that the local auto supply stores don’t stock it so I use the 3M Laquer Red (If you want something that really dries fast, try the 3M Laquer Green. If you are going to putty a 2 inch seam, it will be hardened before you are finished and sandable in 15 minutes)
If you have a source for the blue, go for it.

Thanks for the info Quincy.

I saw the green and red you mentioned also online and they sound good too.
Do they all have about the same texture when dried? Are they real smooth?
How easy are they to sand? I was wondering if they are softer or harder than something like Squadron’s White Putty, which is what I have now.

They sand very well and are of a very fine consitancy (sp). If you put them on in thick layers they will shrink but several thin layers work very well. The only other problem I’ve noted (and just about all the body putty types seem to have it) is, when under a metalic silver it tends to soak the paint up, giving it a different sheen than the area around it. I’ve discovered that if I brush paint a coat of gloss paint it and then sand that smooth with 600 grit that tends to go away. They thin down to the consitancy of paint with laquer thinner which is sometimes handy.

Quincy,

Thanks for all the good info. It is appreciated. [:D]
