Ok… I’ll build and have a go at anything. I’m not proud - I’m a serial modeller!
But by some negotiating, grovelling, pleading and discussion and by seriously giving the old credit card a bashing I’ve managed to obtain THE pre production test shot of the up and coming 1/35 Dora Railway Gun.
I will admit to having 2 production models paid for along with 1 set of aluminum barrel & counterweight breech of this model. It’s a huge thing with approx 2500 pieces and a double railway bed included to put it on. Just call me mad, but I’m so looking forwards to this huge kit I couldn’t help myself.
The Distributor has told me that there are 500 of these models going to Germany and it is certain that some of this limited edition model (about 1000 I think) won’t be taken up and I promised him that I would spread the word. The price is quoted at he bottom of the page, under all the photos, but just get in touch with Hans for the right price… 529 Euros + shipping I think. I’m not sure about the USA allocation. That’s 500 kits too and I’m sure that Hans could fix you up with a kit - but you’d have to pay the full price up front.
You can see various pictures of the hand built prototype along with pictures of the test shot so you can get an idea of the size.
I think that this is a model kit not to be missed despite it’s price and would recommend it to any modeller without actually seeing the kit, only the web pictures. I will of course do a OOB prototype review as well as a OOB production review on my website.
If you can persuade the other half to get one or you’d like one, get in touch with Hans. His contact details are at the bottom of the page link above - and he’s a really nice guy. He will accept payment by bank transfer or credit card - In Euros or USD ( the banking exchange system will sort that).
If you go for it just tell Hans that you got the info from James Goddard

Looking forwards to getting this huge box(s)
Eye-watering…
but… erm… shouldn’t it be in a new forum… such as “This way insanity” or “Grounds for divorce”
he-he, With this much… interest you have got to post your WIP!
good luck
I fell obsessively in love with Schwere Gustav and his big sister Dora when I read an article about them twenty-three years ago, and actually dreamed of scratchbuilding the 80cm(KE) in 1:35th scale, complete with a diorama of the Bachisiray firing circuit, featuring command staff, vehicles, anti-aircraft defenses, the works… But I was never actually certified insane, never had the money and never had anywhere to put the damned thing if I was to build it.
I’ve been seeing the promos for this beast for the last year, and I too am slobbering, but even at the current exchange rate it’s a grand in Aus dollars before shipping, and there’s still nowhere to put it. I think this is one doomed affair, and I’ll have to watch from afar as those who are in a position to exercise their minimal grasp on reality get all the fun and actually build the beast.
You might want to build it wherever it is going to be displayed. After it is completed, it may not fit through the door! Any estimated time for a complete build? I am thinking 2 people working on weekends, could assemble / paint / weather the beast in 12 to 18 months.
