As kind of a surprise birthday gift for my father, I was thinking about building a tank for him. He was not actually part of a tank crew, he was in communcations for Hell On Wheels during Vietnam (68-72ish).
I was wondering if anyone knows what the proper armor markings would be. And maybe even a suggestion for a kit - I originally thought Pershing, but it appears they were not used in Nam during the late 60’s. Reference sites or anything would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,

I don’t recall the second armored ever being deployed to Viet Nam, they certainly weren’t there when I was. You’re dad was probably at good old Fort Hood if he was in 2AD in 68-72. We were transitioning M48A5’s to the ARVN forces in Viet Nam in '72. The CAV was operating with the M551 Sheridan. Anyhow, markings would be generic, good old Army OD with a white star national insignia in the states. Unit markings would be located just below the front slope, and on the rear of the vehicle, left and right. On the right, DIV-BATTALION-REG, on the left, COMPANY -PLATOON - TANK - - example for the 2AD:
2 / 2 /64 C - 31 -
translation - Second Armored Division, Second Battalion, Sixty Fourth Armored Regiment
Company C, Third Platoon, First tank

Thank You Crockett,
I am just returning to modeling, and this would only be my second attempt at armor.
I know we lived in El Paso and Corpus Christy bases for a while, so he may of been at Fort Hood. The other division he was in was Americal. I am basing this on the patches I have seen on his old uniforms etc.
Anyway, thanks for the info, really appreciate it!
