I’m building the above model and I think the seats are padded(bottom and back support) I just received the new FSM and they have a picture in there and I think it’s made of leather. Does anyone have any thoughts or has anyone built the kit? I’m padding with milliput and I am trying to build straight from the box (my first build in 9 years).

You have to wonder why they would use leather to cover a seat that more than likely would be constantly exposed to the elements.
An original picture would be helpful here because as noted, restorations are sometimes inaccurate. Because of the open nature of this weapon, I would lean toward a painted metal seat; the drain-lightening holes make sense.
I would assume they were leather wrapped for comfort of the gun crew. I wouldn’t want to sit directly on the metal seat in the dead of a Russian winter.
I’m looking for period photos, but none of them are clear enough to tell weither the seat was covered or not.
The picture bellow is from Prime Portal and shared by Carl Dennis.
This one is padded.
This is a German 20mm Flak 38 on a Sd.Ah.51 Trailer. This is a late war gun fitted with gearboxes on the elevation & traverse hand wheels. It was photographed at the Royal Museum of the Army and Military History, Brussels.
