262 question

OK. I’m almost done with my first 262 build and have a question regarding the landing gear doors. What color was the inside of them? RLM02? Silver?

Also, I’m building the DLM kit and kind of got carried away when it came to the decals. The instructions are not very clear and I didn’t notice until after the fact that the theater band should’ve gone on before I put the yellow “1” on behind the cross. So my thinking was, just put it on over the “1” and find or make another “1” to go over the band. Well, I messed up the frickin band. My decal set kind of screwed it up so I quickly pulled it all off and now I’m back to square one but without the band :frowning:
I went out and bought some dunkelblau and rot figuring I could just mask and paint the thing on. But, is this possible after I’ve already sprayed her with Future? Will the paint stick to the Future OK? Or can I maybe spray some dullcoat on the area then paint , then more Future to bring back the shine? I was planning on leaving it with the Future finish only and not adding dullcoat at all. Am I wrong in my assumption that 262s had a semigloss or glossy finish?

I suppose if I can’t paint over Future I’ll just have to chalk it up to not analyzing the instructions well enough and live with a less colorful stormbird. I really hate them DML instructions, crappy detail and poor perspective leads to inaccuracies. My PzIVJ kit from them also left me with speculation as to proper placement of pieces and whatnot. Pretty good detail though, so I can’t complain there.

The 262 at the National Air and Space Museum has a flat finish. Even if the paint starts out glossy or semi glossy, after a few months in the weather it goes to flat. You shouldn’t have any problem painting over the Future.

Thanks for the info subfixer.

Now let me hear about what color to paint these gear doors! Pixilator, I’ve seen your builds and know you’ve done a couple 262s in your day. What did you do with em? Or anyone else for that matter.

The gear doors are pretty much left to you to decide. You can use RLM 02, aluminum, or RLM 76. Any of these would be applicable.

Hope this helps.
