Nice Figgies…!!!
Have to agree with the others, it’s now “alive!” with the added figures. The expressions on their faces and the poses are perfect…I can just hear the “pointer” saying “I TOLD YOU to go LEFT, not RIGHT!”
Great job Marc. The base and figs add so much. You really have this armor thingy down pat.
p.s. just finished my first wingy thing. You can check it out in the weekend madness GB.
Thnaks for all the comments guys. Bill you are not far off form what I was thinking…
“I can SEE where we ARE, now show me where we’re SUPPOSED TO BE!”
Me building armor… panzerguy building aircrft… dogs and cats living together… oh when will it end[:O]
Wait until you’re combining aircraft and armor on the same dio… Vader-voice- “I have you now…”
You’ve walked (stumbled?) into a larger world, Wings… Hang on to that map, lol. Once you start telling stories with your models, there’s no going back to shelf displays…
You’ll never look at other models the same way again, lol…
Ahhh… HVH, life wa so much easier when they just got plopped down on whatever surface was open enough ot take 'em[:D]
Hiya Marc[:D]
the build is top notch!!-- so are the figs!—here is my question-- is this now a diorama?–I envy people who can paint figures well-- I haven’t really tried yet so not really in a position to comment other than yours are great looking!-- but with the additions of figures it seems to me it makes it a diorama and in a way, distracts from the excellence of the primary build.
Just my own dumb opinion, and to play the Devils advocate, I think I would have displayed such a fine build on a plain, well done base with a plaque-- old fashioned I know[:)], but my eye wanders to the figures instead of the 251-- especially with the nice work you did on the trailer -------tread[8D]
Marc - Outstanding…nice figs, thats next on my list…You first try out and they are great (my first try still sits on the bench and winks at me).
They fit the scene (yes…scene) and tell the story. I guess that answers your other post
OK, as far as wingy things…your forgot the wings that rotate…they can “plop” right down in a scene with a vehicle!! [;)]
Rounds Complete!!
sharp looking build there Marc.
Again dupes, i have to agree with you their. I have been doing figures for years and i can’t get the skin looking that good.
Wing-Nut please tell me you got someone else to do them for you.
I’d give it a resounding “Yes” …
Actually, it shouldn’t wander there… It (the Eye) should be immediately drawn to the figures and be apparent as to what’s going on, then allowed to look over the rest of the scene (it’s no longer a model remember) settling on the 251 at the end…
In my opinion, well-executed dioramas are far more interesting than a model glued down onto a decoupodge plaque… My own belief is that, most folks with non-military backgrounds (I’m just keeping it simple, this could apply to any type of dio) no all about what it is that soldiers do in combat, and the “bang-bang, shoot-'em-up” doesn’t depict what it’s like to Soldier, to actually live in, on, and around these vehicles for weeks, months, and even years at a time… You can’t pull that off with a model on a board…
It also seems that figure painting is what most folks fear about diorama building… Trust me… It isn’t THAT hard to pull off a pretty convincing figure… Especially if you keep in mind that no one is going to see it the way we do here. A 1/35th scale figure that’s blown up by the camera to 1/6th scale… On your dio, the closest anyone’s gonna get to it is about five inches, which scales out to about 20 feet… You don’t have to include details on a figure that wouldn’t be see on a guy standing 20 feet away from you…
We’re all just used to seeing the close-up photography in magazines and in here, so we’ve come to expect to able to count nose-hairs on figure that’s two inches tall… You wouldn’t see the build that way standing in front of it in my living room…
Oh crap, just reminded me that I forgot to glue black felt in my figgies nose!!! And how about a few strands sticking out of the shirt collar? Devil’s in the details you know. And what about the guy taking a piss in the grass? Now,… Forget about it…[:O]
Look, I really admire the skill and effort that goes into generating those that stand up to macro photography. I’m not at that level yet; may never be. But it isn’t necessary. Marc and others have shown in his build that that level of detail (although impressive) isn’t necessary to be effective.
Don
OK…If I make a figure of a soldier “checking the tire pressure” should I be able to tell what religion he is??? [:O]
Your right, but it is the constant pursuit of excellance. [banghead]
Rounds Complete!!
Beautiful work. Beautiful. I wish I can build something like that. Just tell that soldier with a gun to move his hand from the top of the barel. If it accidently goes off he will loose his hand. Seen that happen, no good. ![]()
How do you enable emoticons on this forum?
Those Fig’ss make all the difference, and they are superbly painted to boot. THey work very well.
Just my opinion but sometimes a badly painted figure can completely ruin a vehicle but you have pulled it off very well.
Congrats and Reards,
Terry.
Yeah, but you’d have to buy the newest set of PE dogtags…[:D]
Again I have to thank all of you for the compliments and input. That why I come to the forum inthe 1st place. Constructive criticism and encouragement to try new things. the quote below is exacly why I never tried them before. I’ve seen it too many times as well. I took the 251 off the base and put it back on the shelf. There is no comparison. Some dirt and grass and a couple of guys.
You are right about not having to see all the details too. Some f it I am sure has to do with it being photos and the angle you can’t see it, but i never painted their shirtssince I had no idea what they would wear under the tunic. And I swear it looks like one of them has on a tie? Please tell me you don’need a coat and tie for a war? Or is that just to get into the restaurant after the battle?[;)]
As far as the skin… all I did was use MM warm skin tone with a burnt sienna wash and a drak dry brush for the 5 o’clock shadow. It’s not too “pink”?
