looking for suitable figs in ETO uniforms (Did commonwealth troops wear the shorts in Europe?) for my Quad/25 pdr. The kit only came with the driver and I want the rest of the crew. Any one have any ideas? Not sure right now if they will be seated in the Quad or outside but I could modify standing troops for a sitting pose.
Commonwealth troops … rare as hen’s teeth. There are a few that have been included in various kits like Tamiya’s Universal Carrier. DML has kit #6055 still available. Other than that, it’s probably Hornet or other resin / lead figure producers.
Here’s DML #6055
Thanks for the tip Shermanfreak.
Saw a Tamiya set - “british patrol” I think but I am gonna keep looking. Was originally gonna do this in late war Canadian markings but the FAT is clearly not CMP. [:(]
Actually Derek the Tamiya FGT is still a CMP (Canadian Miltary Pattern). It is the Cab 11 style, while the more familiar Italeri / Peerless Max kit is the Cab 13 style.
Was the Cab 11 standardized from the British version? Or is it the Guy Ant? My research is limited so far as I don’t want to go hog wild on the detailing, just a quickie for the heck of it.
I’ll do a little more research on the Cab 11 design and get back to you. IIRC it was “based” on British requirements but that is where all similarities ended. I believe I have some pics of a museum survivor too if this would help in any way.
Wolf do some nice resin figures
Captain Caveman: Thanks, i’ll check em out.
Shermanfreak: That’s what I was thinking, I’m not trying to get it “spot on”, just a reasonable replica.
One thing I noticed was a large U-shaped tublar structure under the spare tire that seems
to appear on most of the FATs whch I may add. I have found some good sites on the FGT/FAT
so I might add more than originally planned but I am NOT gonna go all out on this one! [:D]
Can fully understand “not going all out” Derek. Sometimes we get so caught up in the details we forget to have fun. I do have some pics of this vehicle but I have to scan them so I’ll send them to you tomorrow sometime. The gun tractor is one of my favourites from Tamiya, it builds up great OOB.
In regards to their history for a sec … the British send over a Guy and a Morris FAT that were used as starting points for the CMP line of vehicles. Other than that, they were all Canuck.
