i have had in my loft for the last fifteen years the old monogram 24th scale huey (heliswiss) i have started to build it but found that the instrument panel is just a decal. can any of you rotor heads help with suggestions of making an instrument panel or is there any after market sets out there? could do with some decent seat belts etc also. thanks lads and lasses. des
i saw this in a really old fine scale modeler magazine that my grandma gave to me and in one of the tips that has the answer to your questions
1 get a piece of piece of clear sheet and attach it to yourr decal
2 then apply mask to the clear sheet once it’s glued on (apply it on intsruments)
3 paint panel flat black (the mask will cover were the instruments are)
4 lift mask to expose instruments

Unless you just have to have a 1/24 scale Huey, I would ditch it and get the excellent 1/35 UH-1C from Academy. The old 1/24 one is really lacking on details and accuracy. Overall, it is a pretty weak kit. Just my opinion.
thanks for your advice the kit has been in my loft for a long time and the idea is to finish it in aussie colours (navy) as they sent some to vietnam during the early years

It a good kit that with some scratchbuilding and accessorizing makes up to a nice model.
I used some industrial paper toweling to replicate the interior insulation and padding. Water and white glue to make it rigid and hold its shape.
This poor model has been through several “crashes”…moves that it has a lot of damage. Skids broken.
I’ve got a couple more, which I have slowly started on another one…adding detailing to make it really look good. Someday I hope to finish it.
One I have is the Phantom Huey…that one will get the full treatment!!! I have the T.O. for the early Huey’s, lots of good info in there.
