Where does the crew stand when they are firing at a target? is it inside the hull or on the rear deck?
I would say in the vehicle, manning the gun. Same positions as a normal PaK 40, but standing up.
More or less, but the commander would probably get as high up as he safely could (while being mindful of snipers and other dimounted infantry), and the driver would likely be in his seat in the attack, or breaking out ammo in the defense or ambush…

The Pak 40 on the 234/4 was mounted inside the hull, so for the crew to effectively man this direct-fire weapon, they would also have to be situated inside the hull. Definitely a cramped workspace, but standing on the rear deck would only expose them and not allow them to actually reach the gun to fire it, hence Roy’s incredulity on the scenario I imagine. [;)]
If you’re thinking of a dio possibility, the only reason a crewman would be on the rear deck would be if he was entering/exiting the vehicle or passing ammunition to restock the ammo bins IMHO…and neither are something he would be doing while the vehicle was in-action. The vehicle carried 36 rounds and was an “ambush” weapon and the hull had side extensions to increase protection for the crew while manning the gun, so it would be in the crew’s best interests to remain inside the area of the gun mount for maximum survivability in combat.
