Good to see an older design remain useful and effective for extended periods of time, like the F-15s and F-16s.
Sweet! i’ve been looking for a pic of the Pope A-10s w/the litening pod…thanks
Hey Guys,
I worked the Hawgs for 4 years and was deployed to Afghanistan & Iraq with them, and the unit I was with was 1 of 2 that flew with the LITENING II pods and we where the only A-10 unit (even the only USAF flying unit in Iraq until 1May 03) in country during the first months of Iraqi Freedom, we also where there for the demise of Uday & Qusay Hussien (Saddam’s sons),
The LITENING II mods was an off the shelf update that was basically okayed by depot but authurized by local command (Unit Commander) to upgrade the planes before OIF, but after the success of the modifacation then it was implemented to all of the aircraft in USAF inventory (including ANG & Reserves), now the A-10C’s uses both stations 3 & 9 when the A-10A’s only used station 9
