I do have both Classic A6m2 and F4U1 corsair kits from Revell and both have removable engine cowls so you can see the completed motors. So I figure it should probably be the same for both kits made by 21st Century toys.
Now THAT is a jammin’ butt-kickin’ Corsair there JW! My favorite bird of WWII.
I’ve still got the Black Sheep Corsair and Zero hanging in my shop ceiling. Didn’t do any detailing on them though.
Congrats on a great build Bubba!

Jon,
Excelent paint job !!
The preshading and “spatchy” post is just great. You must be praud of this build!
For a moment I thought you made two diferent planes. Those lights totally changed colors - white balance fooled me a bit [:)]

Very nicely done, Jon. Those 21st Century kits build up quickly and make a decent shelf-sitter. The decals are worth the kit cost alone.
Camojoe2, Keyworth- Thanks guys, I appreciate it!
gzt- Thanks! I used different settings on my camera, one for close-up. I’m not much of a photographer- ijust sorta point and shoot. [;)]
One of the nicest Corsairs I’ve ever seen modeled, Jon! Superb job on the weathering.
Mark
Beautiful job on that corsair, Jon [tup]
I’m particularly jealous of the weathering and faded paint job. You wouldn’t mind sharing some techniques, would you? I’ve got a 1/48 corsair in my stash that I’ve been hesitant to start because of the paint job.

GREAT JOB!!![tup][tup][tup]
I noticed the 21st Century Kits the other day when I was on break. I usually head to our small selection of models to see if there was anything different. I saw these new kits and did not think much of them. But now, I will be picking up every kit they have and with my Walmart discount, I should be saving some bucks.

Great work. I really like the weathering and the painting finish. Really makes it come alive. [tup]
Gigatron- Thanks so much for your encouragement! Take a look at this- I wrote some stuff on the techniques I used. I also went over it some in my build report. If you’d like, feel free to email or PM me also!
Mark Joyce, painklr, Tankmaster7- Thanks so much- I really appreciate it!
That’s a nice looking bird you got there, been thinking of getting that one myself. Great job on the weathering by the way!
Jon, top notch job on the Corsair. [bow][bow] I really wish they sold those kits at the walmarts up here in Canada. I look forward to seeing what you do with the spitfire.
Brilliant write up and build report, Jon. Even though I’ll be building the hasegawa, I’ll definitely be referencing it for advice.
Great job all around [tup]

One of the best F4U’s I’ve seen around here. I think you just bumped up to a much higher skill level on this build. Nice, nice work.
Andy
Well I finally was able to purchase the kit(Wally-world was sold out last week).I have begun the construction of the modular cockpit and have Zinc-chromated the bulkheads as well as the inside of the fuselage. This kit reminds of the '70s vintage 1/32 Corsair(although the engine was better in the Revell kit).i am pleased with the exterior detail and believe it should be a pretty good kit.I too will opt for the tri-clor scheme.I don’t like the overall dark blue just dosen’t look right(Although I know it is prototypically correct).I have begun to paint the engine and it doesn’t look too bad but is not as good as the engine on my Trumpeter 1/32 scale Wildcat(But then the Trumpy kit cost about 3 times as much on sale). It looks as if the wings are hinged so I look forward to working on it!
klem- Thanks so much!
razordws- Thanks! I’ll keep my eye open- if some more appear on the Wal-Mart shelves here, I’ll let you know!
Gigatron- Thanks so much for your kind words! Glad you enjoyed the write-ups.
Wulf- Thanks so much- I truly appreciate your encouraging words!
philo426- Cool! Be sure and post pics.
Thanks JWB!I have joined the fuselage and have taken care-of the seams at the top as well as the screw holes.I must say that the engine looks good The steel/silver gray and black-wash really make the cylinders stand-out!I have constructed and painted the gear legs(The inclusion of the steel pin to increase the strength of the landing gear is a nice touch!)And have begin assembly of the wing.I get the feeling that this kit will really come out well.Since I am on Vacation next the kit should be finished within a week.
What’s already been said, Jon. I can’t add anymore to it, except. [bow]
philo246- Those landing gear are a little piece of work, aren’t they? They actually work! I glued mine, but if you build it as a toy, they work like the real thing. Neat!
chopperfan- Thanks! You are too kind, my friend. [:D]
Construction is essentially complete and I will soon begin to paint it.one thing that is a little strange is that despite the fact that the wings are engineered to fold(And they do fold nicely) nowhere on the box or instructions is this great feature mentioned!Plus some of the other detail parts ,such as the exhaust stacks, are not shown on the instruction sheet. Not a problem for us expeirenced modelers, but could be a problem for a kid or novice modeler.JWB I do think that the landing gear are well-designed and the inclusion of drop tanks, bombs, and underwing missles makes this kit an outstanding value.Wonder what Revell and Hasegawa think when they check out these series of kits?
