So, for all you BSG fans, check out the SIZE of the new Moebius Cylon Raider!!! Pictured below is the original Revell kit, the MONSTER in the middle and the Moebius Colonial Viper beside. This ship is 1/32 scale!! Finally a model company realized the sheer size of these ships. Heck, the pilots sit side by side, so, it stands to reason, this ship would have been huge:
Added this pic for fun. Here’s the original Mattel toy Raider with the Revell version then the monster Moebius:
Yes, Gents, that IS an 18" ruler under the ship!!!
Wow Rob, I’d just assumed the new Raider was the same scale as the old Monogram kit. It did carry a crew of three Centurions so yeah I guess it would be somewhat bigger than the Viper.
So, I am very much unfamiliar with the Revell snaptite pre-painted kits (Slave 1). It looks really good OOB and normally I would be fine building it as is.
However, I want to paint it, even if it will pretty much look the same when I’m done. So I decided to try and strip the paint off last night. My normal method is Purple Power and a tooth brush. The paint is not coming off. Luckily I just tried it on the engines.
Is there something better that will remove the paint?
Do I even need to remove the paint? Can it just be painted over?
i have used simple green too. i stumbled across and interesting effect i may try on next camo pattern using simple green. i also use testors paint and decal remover. DON’T LET THINKS SOAK LONG IN IT. it will start to melt details. i let it sit for a few minutes, scrub and wipe than drop the pirce in a tub of water to make sure all is off. sometimes it takes multiple applications.
I like your thinking here. If you’ll have me, I’d like to join up with the FineMolds 1/48 scale Star Wars Snow Speeder. If that’s all right with you, I’ll get the sucker ordered ASAP.
Since Tim’s signing on, I have to get on board with Moebius’ 1/4105 scale (what scale is that, Tim?) Battlestar Pegasus with ParaGrafix photoetched metal details and the Madman Lighting system.
I’ve assembled the engines and sanded then as seamlessly as I could. The fit of the parts is not very great but they are manageable. Getting all the plumbing to line up and then making it seamless was a real chore. After I lined them up as best I could I used a razor saw to sort of dig out the spaces in between the piping. Then I went over them with liquid cement to sort of soften up any scratches or marks that I couldn’t sand out (without sanding off the piping):
The wires are obviously the LED wires.
And speaking of the LEDs…I’ve changed my mind about how I was going to light it up. I’ve bought the LED kit from PoweredPlay Gaming instead of wiring it myself. These guys have a pretty good setup. They’ve designed their product with wargaming in mind but you can use them in just about anything. Here’s the Pink LED kit that I bought:
In order to get the wires as hidden as possible I’ll have to cut and re solder them after I assemble the s-foils. Oh well.
Yeah, the ships are cool! I bought a Moebius Viper Mk II with the Paragrafix PE set after we watched it. My wife was like “You should build one of those!” When I build it I’m gonna try to weather the heck out of it!
BSG season 3 almost killed me. I had to opt out half way through and take some time off. When Syfy geared up for season 4, it played a marathon of season 3, and that’s when I stepped back in. I was a serious fan up until the end–which left me, shall we say, flaccid?
And yes, cool ships! I’ve loved the Viper since I was a wee bairn. In fact, I have a Moebius BSG OS model on my desk right now–mostly built. Care to guess which one?
By the way, I thought you guys might like this link. This photographer likes to take realistic photos of Star Wars toys and models. Some of the ship shots are incredible. He uses a super-high shutter speed and tosses sand or snow or whatever at the subjects to get the effects he wants. Here you go!
Tim, those photos of the LEGO figures and ships reminds me of when I was a kid and LEGOs were still fairly new. I remember they had this kind of paperback book that told a story using only pictures of the LEGO kits. It started out with the city kits and then moved into the space kits. It was a sort of catalogue/advertisement for the kits, of course.
The pictures in that link you provided seem just like the pictures in that old book (actually it resembled a magazine more than a book).
