Thanks Mike for posting the thread and to everyone that has posted. I have just looked at some beautiful pieces of art. Thanks for sharing them with me everyone.
As many of you know I started modeling one year ago now and in 2009 I completed 11 models total if you include my Chevy that I am still painting stowage and figures for, I want to personally thank everyone that encouraged me to improve.
The hardest thing about his was limiting myself to one pic a piece!!! [:D] I posted first to last.
I guess I’ll get in on this thread too. As for myself it suprisingly has been one of my more productive years with a total of three finished builds and one on the bench(a scratch 1/32 Horatio Phillips Multi-plane that’s currently stalled on the engine)
1/35 Zvezda M-3 Scout Car (took six months to finish)
I havent wandered into the forum too much over the past year, but I’ve still been busy in the secret underground laboratory.
I started out 2009 by finishing the slat armored Stryker. I chronicled the construction of this vehicle in the forum this time last year.
After the Stryker, I was kinda burned out and avoided the workbench for a while. When I returned, I cranked out this AFVClub Scorpion recon vehicle in a weekend.
Then came a Tamiya 4x20mm Mobelwagen and crew (apparently standing in the desert).
Then came the DML 105mm Howitzer, seen here on its celluclay base that has yet to be painted. Or I could just call it snow.
I had some fun with the AFVClub M35 quad-fifty gun truck. I named this imaginary vehicle after my wife’s friend Shirley, who is quite the knitter.
Another offering from AFVClub, an M548A1 tracked cargo vehicle sporting the odd Seventh Army camo scheme of the mid-'70s.
Last but not least, an Academy Merkava III, with Legend ball and chain armor under the basket. What a pain in the tucchus THAT little endeavor was…and being the masochist that I am, I’m doing the same on the Merkava IV.
This gem should keep me occupied for the cold, snowy Amish Frontier winter. This is what my wife got me for Christmas.
Woah~ This is the Mother of all Armor threads! What a great idea. What a great look at a great bunch of modeling. Being a Dio & Vignette builder I don’t have alot in the way of stand-alone models…let’s see.
Tamiya’s famous 105mm M4 Sherman with Eduard P.E. winterized for my 3rd Diorama build
Ardennes, Dec.,1944 Seen in FSM Jan 2010, I was hard at work on it last year this time
Tamiya’s Kpfw IV Ausf J with eduard P.E. & Academy stryene Indies, built for my 4 th Dio
British Airborne Holland
Then I built 2 small 3"x3" vignettes with no armor in sight ( The Horror ! [:|])
Russian Machine Gunner in Trench A converted Hornet figure & DML Maxim Gun
Rudolf’s Roadside Rant
Tamiya’s 1/35 scale Citroen 11CV & Verlinden figure, for future untitled Dio project
Dragon’s 7.5 cm Pak40 finished to the base coat for my current dio build ~! Clash in Tunisia !~
Lion Roar / Great Wall Hobby BMW R75 also finished for the current build …
Tamiya’s Kubelwagon type 82 with Verlinden & scratchbuilt updates
(see more about this build in Diorama Forum [:#] plugola!) I’m going into 2010 half way through this Dio project. Somewhere around 2 more months with it. After this I have in mind to do a Russian re-supply scene and a Bounce the Rhine Dio, although there is a strong call to do more in the desert! See ya there…Indy
I’ve been a WWI, WWII & Vietnam hobby historian for years and armour has always enthralled me so in May this year I decided to try my hand at modelling. I’m now totally hooked and am running out of space fast for all my paints, tools and kits!
My first EVER model - a Tamiya 1/48 Tiger I
My second EVER - a Tamiya 1/48 Sherman IC Firefly
My third - A Tamiya 1/35 M26 Pershing (I’m starting to improve a bit now and used MIG pigments here)
My Fourth - A Tamiya 1/48 Flakpanzer ‘Wirbelwind’ and my first time using figures and also my first time brush painting Tamiya acrylics (not great), up to now I’ve been brush painting Humbrol enamels (the figure on the RHS has since has his helmet turned the right way round)!
My Fifth (and current favourite) - A Tamiya 1/35 Marder with whitewash
The figures here have since been repainted and look a lot better
This was my current WIP six weeks ago but I finished her yesterday-does she count? DML Mid-Production Brummbar…
Lot’s of great work in 2009 amigos! This year wasn’t quite as productive for me as I would have liked, too many other things keeping me from my work bench including some health problems. Things are already looking up this year and I have lots of ship models in the works. Here is what I managed to complete in 2009:
OK, here is what I built this year. Completed more kits this year then any other. Some really bad (see #1) and one the was OK. (See #4) Then 2 in between.
#1.) Tamiya 1/48 Tiger I (Much maligned here in the Armor forum and rightfully so![:$])
#2.) Tamiya 1/35 Jeep. (Had a number of problem with this one. But still better than the Tiger.)
#3.) The I-25 Eliminator (Scales vary. Built during 6 hour build get together at local hobby shop.)
#4.) Tamiya 1/48 Su-122. (This is a final pic after incorporating some weathering suggested by The Doog.)
Well, that’s it. Not a totally great year. But I think I can honestly say the models got better as the year went on.
