Info for ya!

Are the AMPS judging rules much different than IPMS rules?

The rules are very different. For starters, the AMPS rules do not award 1-2-3 models. Every model is judged based on a set criteria and given points. Depending which skill level the entrant places himself, the point total will then determine if he gets Gold, Silver or Bronze or no award.

Theoretically, there are unlimited Golds, Silvers, etc. It’s very labor intensive as EVERY single model gets evaluated. Also the judges write comments on the entry form which is usually very helpful for the modeller.

One is competing against himself rather than the other models on the table. As a matter of fact, once the models are entered, they go to the judging area. Only after they’ve been evaluated do they even go out to the display room (which remains open throughout the show – except for a small window when they judge the dioramas).

Here’re the official rules:

It’s not a perfect system but rewards riskier modelling than the 1-2-3 systems.

Feel free to ask for any clarification.

Sound like another great line-up, Roy!

If things come off anywhere near as well as last year, it should be an outstanding event, yet again.

I am hoping I can make it again with Winston!
