2003 Tokyo Hobby Show Armor News (Thread from Oct 2003, resurrected by JWest21!)

Here’s what a buddy of mine who went to Tokyo today had to report from the big hobby show:

Releases:

Dragon:
Firefly Vc, two figures, 3800 Yen, October or November release. Might be a retool of the old Firefly molds.

Sdkfz.251 Ausf.D (or C), 3400 Yen, October or November release.

T34/76 1940, box art only. Release might be this year.

AFV CLUB:
Sdkfz.251 Ausf.D, Spring 2004 release.

Zvezda:
Panzer III Ausf. F

Trumpeter :
Challenger II Operation Iraqi Freedom version, November release.

I’m diggin’ the Firefly and new Challenger II!

Thanks for the information, Brian! A new Vc does sound good…

[B)] New Firefly Vc, huh! It figures. I brood and fuss over which models to get, pickup the e and the Firefly and here they come out with a new one. I’m surprised they didn’t do the e too! [:p]

Oh well, it’s not like a paid a high premium for the Firefly they way I did for the e. Maybe it will be a higher tech kit and be the forerunner of a new set of M4 based kits.[:)]

About what do those prices equate, Brian?

Tell your friend, “Thanks, for keeping us informed”.

Anybody going to the Vegas show this weekend??

Bill

Yikes, you did just get a Firefly, didn’t ya, Bill? Ah well, it’s a good kit, too![:D]

Prices…let’s see. Right now, we’re at about 110 yen to a US dollar, so:
3800 yen = $34.55
3400 yen = $30.90

Is that about what Dragon kits usually go for in the States?

I paid about $22 for the Firefly and $32 for the E. But they were from a shop that gives the club members a bit of a discount. However, the E was way high because it’s oop and he bought it off evil-bay.
Take a quick look at greatmodels.com. They list both retail as well as their price for all current kits. If they are oop, the often don’t show what the retail was, just what their discounted price was.

Dragons go for about $22 to $35 depending on the kit. The Borgward and Kettenkrad about about $15, I think. Leopold is running $75 to 80 most places.
The Trumpter Leopold is killing us at about $105 to 115. It’s cheeper than the DML everywhere in the world except here, I think.

Have a good evening

Bill

Oops, sorry! Forgot you are in Canada, Bill.
I have no idea what the Yen / Canadian Dollar excange rate is.
The yen has been getting stronger recently, so you guys overseas might see higher prices on the Japanese stuff.

Dragon seems to be more expensive here in Japan than it does over there. And China’s so close…Oh well!

Have a good day, Bill!

Brian

Bill not in Canada…Bill in Utah!!

Yeah, umm, I knew that, Bill! Who is in Utah!
Did I say Canada? Ah, I meant Utah!
Just a little typo, that’s all…it’s 3am here, you know…so, yeah…hooo, boy!

…must…get …grip…on…reality…!!![;)][:D]

GO T O B E D ! ! ! !

stop messing around with the models…Hulk break things if he not get sleep!!

Yeah, but I gotta get this resin interior into this Tiger II before I hit the sack! That October 25th deadline is rapidly approaching!

yes sir, buddy. I know only too well. That’s m’ birthday!! Yahoo!

J-Hulk, is there any news as to what Tamiya’s going to put out next in 1/16 Full Option? I’d like to see a Panther. [:p] [}:)] [:p]
(Okay, I might try the Sherman, if I could upgun it!) [;)]

As for your sleep deprivation, I guess they don’t call it the “Land
of the Rising Sun” for nothing! [;)]
Roy

Figures … the whole sherman community is crying for the release of the M4A1 … and they re-release the Firelfy for the what … 4th time.

It is a nice kit though.

Roy … it already has the Tiger killing 17lber on it … what more could you want !!

Robert, you stab me through the heart!!

LOL

Bill

What I want, is nothing short of getting a rise out of you my friend! LOL [;)]

Roy

Any idea what the big fuss was about that DML was hinting at on their website??? Surely, it can’t be over those three kits? I do want the T-34 and 251, but I thought DML was supposed to come out with something different?

Oh, a Firefly. That’s more like it. Perhaps, I with the Peso very weak, it will come very fairly priced.

Can’t wait.

Brian, didn’t you know that Utah is now a province in Canada? LOL [:D]

Kaleu, I echo your pain. Big deal. Hopefully, Dragon is not done yet. It’s too bad I have the 251/D already. [:(] I really wanted a new KIng Tiger or Jagd-anything.

“It is well that war is so terrible, lest we grow too fond of it.”-R.E.Lee

Yeah, that seems like a lot of pomp and circumstance for just those releases.
I’ll let ya’ll know when I get more info.

Unfortunately, there is no news about the next (or if there’s even gonna be a next) Tamiya 1/16 juggernaut!

Why doesn’t any of the big companies do a Canadian vehicle, maybe a Ram, or one of the modern APC’s?
