I have finished my Icebreaker , USS Atka. I did not include 20 mm AA guns since the images I found did not indicate they were used(in the mid-50’s). I have since discovered they likely were used. Now my dilemma: Where can I get after market 20 mm AA guns in 1/300 scale? If there are none I will have to do some more scratch building. The model measures out to 1/294 scale.
No aftermarket in 1:300 scale. You may want to look at the overscale & too tall 20mm in the 1:350 scale USS The Sullivans Fletcher-class destroyer by Trumpeter. They’re bad for what they’re supposed to be, but the may work out for your application
I’d scratch them. You’d be happy with them, and it’s a good exercise. A little stretched sprue, a sliver of beer can metal and a little glue and you will be proud of yourself.
That’s what i"ll have to do. I scratchbuilt a pair of twin 40 mm guns. I think they turned out pretty good. I turned the barrels on a homemade lathe using .020" brass rod and used fine fly tying lead wire to simulate the recoil springs. I was just looking for an easy way out.
