1966 Ford Mustang 350GT R Finished

Well folks I needed something to fill between build commitments.

This is the subject.

I will be posting some spru shots very soon.

Joe

The spru shots.

Actually Pretty good detail with this one.

And the decals.

And to be honest I have begun. I have begun the painting of the body.

Joe

The first two layers of the painting.

First was a layer of Testors Gloss Black. Once dry I sanded it out a bit with 1000 grit to get some of the blemishes to minimize. I then sprayed Alclad Polished Aluminium to give it a “metal” base layer.

After this I went with the first color. Model Master Enamel Artict Blue Metal Flake. I will allow this to dry then I plan to move into sanding out some of the blemishes that have occured. I will then hit it with another coat. I plan to build up the paint and then on to clear.

Build on…[H]

There were very few of those “R” (R for “race”) GT350s (37 IIRC). Those were Shelby factory race cars. If I’m not mistaken the box art car is one of the Eldlbrock sisters cars. Each sister had one, the blue with white trim, and a white with blue trim. They raced the cars and as far as I know they still own the cars. They now run the company. Again if my memory serves me correctly that blue color is called Sante Fe blue. Again, this is from an old memory and any input on the subject would be welcome. This is an interesting subject and I look forward to following the build. I think that the engines in these were 289 Cobra engines and were black in color.

Ranger many thanks for the information.

Joe

The body has color.

The color is Model Master Artic Blue Metal Flake. I just did not have the specific paint.

Decals are now also on. They are setting up and I will have pictures soon.

Joe

Nice affect can’t wait to see it completed

Many many thanks.

Joe

The decals went on ok.

All things considered though if faced with the same situation I would paint them on. As it is they are on and have been glossed. I was planning to polishing this up but I believe I will just leave it. It has a decent shine to it and looks pretty good.

So here are pics of the decals.

With those now done I can begin to work on the actual stuff in the instructions.

All comments, critiques, and criticism are encouraged.

Joe

That looks good Joe. I don’t know how much you want it to shine but if you want more out of it you can always break out the Novus 2 and then follow it up with the Novus 1.

Beautiful it dose have that hot wheels look to it

Lol! Hot wheels look? I haven’t heard that before.

its like painting on top of chrome gives it that metal look .match box had nothing like that in its day untill 1968
