1914 Senegalese Tirailleur 54mm

This is a Metal Modeles figure painted with Vallejo acrylics. I have a hard time painting the uniform piping with my shaky hands. It came out pretty good. Senegal was a French colony at the beginning of WW1 and 10’s of thousands Senegalese troops fought on the Western Front and Gallipoli. I have read that they were brave, tough fighters. Thanks for looking.

Griffon: Fantastic job there! Love the work on his face and the skin tones, including his toe-nails! Great job on the uniform, rifle, and gear too.

Hi,

That looks great

Thank you guys. I appreciate it! I want to change what I said in my post. I said they were “sent” to fight. I feel that is disrespectful. They were recruited and volunteered to fight for France. They were light infantry and many were designated as sharpshooters.

very nicely done

I love to see troops of nations that have fought wars that were not their own, many times for us it is the first time seeing these troops, usually light Infantry.

I learned something today, thank you!

Thank you bud. France also had 10’s of thousands of colonial troops from Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and Vietnam. They came from across the world to fight on the Western Front and Solonika during WW1. By the early 1960’s all of France’s colonies had gained independence and no longer fought for France. France still had their Foriegn Legion however.

Nice. Lots of tight details in there.
