12 days of Christmas challenge: Monogram/Revel 1/35 Jeep/Gun

The clock has started on this “challenge”. A simple Jeep and gun build.

Logging the start time…

And a look at what I’m dealing with…

You certainly have a challenge there.

Good luck! I’m following.

Good luck. I will post tomorrow. I have started, but this stinker of a cold is procing troublesome!

Cool! Good luck!

Here is a quick update. The main assembly is completed and basic paint applied…

A few more bits and odds/ends to add…

Then lots of weathering to bring out the details. I should have enough time to make a small display diorama too.

The jeep and gun are pretty much finished…

Now I’ve got to work on the figures. Here I trimmed the plastic bases off and added mounting pins so they can be free standing on the diorama.

Wow. You’re making fast progress. Jeep looks great!

Lookin’ real good on the jeep and gun. I like the way you got the windshield dirty but with it clean where the wipers make their arcs. What did you use on the windshield for the dirt?

Fast work Mark, your project is coming along great!

Harold

That looks fantastic. A great job!

Keep going!

Mask off the “clean” areas with the masking tape of your chosing and give the remaining areas a quick shot of dull Cote. It’s that simple.

Ok! Sounds simple enough. Thank you for the tip!

Nice job, last time I built the monogram jeep, it went inside the old Lindberg LCVP landing craft.

Do you have a pic? That would be nice to see.

No, that kit was built in the late 70s.

Those look great Tomcat! Good luck with the figures!

James: Hope you’re feeling better soon.

Thanks for the kind wellness wishes. I am making good progress to a full recovery. A partially build Triebflugel in front of me is calling me to finish and contrary to some posts out there on social media, the work I did plus some initial dry fitting showed that these reports are false.

Once I return to the bench I shall do a proper and full build report!

Tomcat’s build is looking great. Keep going and I hope you are enjoying this challenge!

James

James, I’m glad to hear your feeling better. Get well soon.

Started on the Jeep diorama. Here the base is a chunk of 1 inch foam glued to a matching piece of 1/8 inch masonite…

I measured the approximate distance of the Jeeps wheels from left to right and drew them onto the foam. I then cut/gouged out a trough along the lines to give the appearance of a muddy/dirt road. The stones are glued in place to break up the scene a little…

Then added some Celluclay (paper mache) goop to give the surface some variation and simulate the muddy conditions I’m hoping to achieve.

When this stuff starts to setup (in a couple of days, from previous experience) I’ll run a wheeled vehicle through and hopefully leaves some tire tracks in the mud.

All the while I’m doing this I keep remembering that scene from Patton where George is directing traffic at that muddy cross-roads.

I hope I can get this thing dried, painted, and scenic’d by the 7th.

Great job on the Jeep-looking forward to seeing the diorama build.

There is no need to include a base or anything like that in the 12 day build. The challenge is just to choose and build a kit in 12 days.

If you can finish a base too then go for it, but it is just the kit.
