113 or?

for all you armor experts. The rig in my signature is currently in Iraq. Is it a 113 or? Lets see if i can throw anyone off.

Yes, it is an M113. Can’t tell if it is an A2 or A3 model, can’t see if it has extended rear fuel tanks or not. May be an A2, looks like it lacks the added armor plate of an A3 on the front glacis. Most likely it is an M113A3 though, that is the latest model.

haha… you must have this forum on speed dial Gino. Yes its one of our A3’s. They kept the old A2’s home. Notice all the in the field adaptations.

i have the full size picture if you want to see all the extra stuff up close.

Nope, just took a look and there it was.

Yup, I concur with HeavyArty. There is a big debate going on in the Army right now about which is better - the M113A3 or their new Stryker (LAV-III). Because of urban warfare in Iraq, the Army has been forced to rely on the M113 more then they had originally intended. Looks like an M88A2 in the background.

Wait, no. It is a UH-60Q MedEvac Blackhawk. How did I think that was an M113A3? Silly me, must be time for that eye exam again.

On the M113A3 pic, sure I’ll take it. Email it to me.

By the way. I personally think the M113 is a much better vehicle than the Stryker. Better mobility, better armor, better armament, more reliable, etc., etc. We had the Strykers out here at the NTC a while back. It was not pretty.

HeavyArty, thats what makes the M113A3 so much better then the Stryker. If you get into a tight spot with the M113, the operater pushes the “helo converter button” located on the right side of the fuel guage and the Armored Personnel Carrier becomes an Air Personnel Carrier known as the Blackhawk. Hence, A3 - Air3 [:D]

Well, I am intriqued… where is that picture? Wanna see it now…

Ditto. Pharoah, can you post it again?

seriously! I’d like to see it too.

I agree about the 113A3 over the Stryker. Heard nothing but negatives about it
