109G-2 from group build done

I finished my 1/48 Hasegawa Bf109G-2 with a Verlinden cockpit. I did my first scratchbuilding (wheelwell, flap & canopy details), outside of belts.

I had a great time building this kit. It took me about 16 days.

Here’s a shot of the cockpit that’s lost in the shadows.

Also what do you use for the antenna wire?

Chris - the antenna is stretched sprue, painted with MM non-buff burnt iron metalizer.

I had some time, so there’s about 40 hours or so in the kit. I just did a Hasegawa 109K-4 last month, so this one went together quickly. It has a great fit.

The kit was produced in '98, & came with Aeromaster decals. I chose the markings for : Bf109G-2, W. Nr. 13670, 9./JG52, flown by Oblt. Hermann Graf, Galijagewskaja, Russia, September, 1942.
The camo colors are Model Master enamels, and the yellow RLM 04 is Color of Eagles acrylic.

This was my first experience with a group build. I realize that mine was done pretty quickly, but that’s the way I build.

You’ll get there, my friend… God only knows how many models I, Pix, and the others have went through to get to this point, and it’s STILL a learning process. Be inspired and never stop learning… this board is a melting pot of experience from many fine Modelers, who’s walked the exact same road.

They learn from us, we learn from them.[:)]

Pix. Do you work? ; ) I’m about to finish the cockpit on my corsair. I just don’t seem to have that much time between work, girlfriend, side-work etc… Looks great, but could you at least take a little more time so I feel like I have a life?

Springy - what Frank says is right on the money. Its just a matter of putting in the time & effort.

dj - My next one will probably be a Hasegawa P-47, or a DML Ta 152H-1, a Classic Airframes “Claude,” Hasegawa Ar 234B, or a Hasegawa “Jill.” Haven’t made up my mind yet.

Captain - One Bf 109 at a time is enough for me. (although 10 DOES seem like fun !)

J-Hulk - that’s working 6-12 hours/day, though. I probably put in as much time as everyone else, only I have fewer things in my life.

plum - I’m disabled (genetic disease in my right hand-I’m right-handed). I’m also a Media Arts student. My classes total 8 hours/week. Since I have no family, I have a lot of time to devote to my modelling passion. I go at my own pace, as I believe everyone else here does. We’re all different. If I were to change my pace, I would most likely become disinterested. Measuring yourself with someone else’s ruler rarely provides accurate measurements.

Pix if you haven’t done one yet the hasegawa P-47 is a gorgeous kit. Built mine staright from the box except for Aeromaster decals almost falls together now I need 9 or 10 more so I can do all the colorful ones. JOHN

tempersjohnny - I really like the Hasegawa kit. I’ve built a D-25 bubbletop, & a razorback. This one will be a D-28 RE with Aeromaster decals & a Technics cockpit. I’ll also be using Alcad for the first time on this one.

I love your 109![^] Thats such a great paint job, you have finished it beautifully. As always I take my hat off to you sir[bow][bow][bow].

I have a 109 to build myself, yet I haven’t started it due to my fear of the mottled camo scheme[:0] Did you do that freehand or with a mask? I be intrested to know.

The wings, yellow theater IDs, canopy, & RLM 74 inside the fuselage crosses are masks. The fuselage camo is freehand. I spray less than an inch away, at 5-7psi, minimum paint volume, mixed at almost 50:50. Its very slow-going, but I can outline the mottle “spots” & fill them in. Going slowly allows me have more control of where the paint goes.

Glad you like it. Its one of my favorite builds so far.

Thanks, masu. I guess I’m kinda addicted to my airbrush. If I can’t paint it with a #000, I spray it. I’m terrible at painting anything besides detail with a brush.
