Well, I am getting close to completing my 1st Sherman. This is Tamiya’s M4A3 75mm. I still have more weathering to do and once the tracks and accessories (backpacks, gas cans, etc) are installed, will dirty it up a bit more.
I know the wooden tool handles look new (I just finished the base coat and will add darker streaks for wood grain) I will also apply the pastels to them when the kit is complete.
That’s the reason. I really wanted to take 2 Armor pieces to the Cleveland Model Show on November 1st (which is next weekend) so, I had to get going on them. Each is at a different stage of completion. Work threw me the biggest curve-ball with all the overtime coming my way. I so want to get going on my Tiger but, I gotta keep focused [;)]
As for the weathering, it’s very basic right now. I painted the entire kit in Tamiya XF-62 O.D. then I did the oil wash with Burnt Umber, lightened a bit with White. I then RE-washed with just the basic Burnt Umber on the lower hull (front, back and sides) I dry-brushed Steel, Gun Metal and Rust on the rest.
I almost had a stroke this morning when I found out that the cat had played with (and eventually lost) one of the suspension pieces during the night [B)] Shermanfreak came through in a pinch and is sending me the needed parts.
Turning away from my beloved German armor? No! I do however really like the way this Shermie is progressing.
Looks good Eric, to bad about your cat at least you can get rid of it , I’m kind of stuck with my part stealer I can just hope it’s part of the terrible twos.
Not to worry! I’ve found that a Sherman suspension can actually be quite easily whittled from a cat’s skull. [:p]
Oh, kitty! Fear not. The bad man was just kidding.
I really like the way this one is coming out. Makes you want to hop on and lob some HE at the Heinies. Good show!
(I just read that many of the Shermie crewmen actually preferred the 75 to the 76! Weird, huh? Apparently the 75 was vastly superior in HE work to the 76, and since 75% of the ammo a Sherman fired was HE, well, there you have it.)
That’s one good looking sherman, Eric. Good job. Man, with all this good sherman jobs posted lately, I am having second thoughts posting pics of my winter M4A3 105 that I just completed. I really messed that one up. Maybe I should go get another M4 kit.
